Does anybody know if we are going to be able to purchase a Blu-ray of the 2199 series with both Japanese with English subs and with the English dub (by Funimation)? I'm dying to own this series but the one currently available from Japan is hideously expensive. I'm one of those who watched Star Blazers on UHF everyday at 3:30pm after school so I really want to own this one.

The home grown dub 99% guarantees a Blu-Ray / DVD Combo Pack Release. If they had used the BANG! ZOOM! dub of the first 2 episodes and continued from there, I would have had some doubts. Just don't Expect it until the middle of next year though at the Earliest, and expect it to be broken up into 2 parts. The Biggest Question is whether Funimation licensed the Voyage of the Celestial Ark movie when they grabbed the TV Series.

By The Way I imported all of 2199 including the 2 movies. I'll buy it again for the dub.

Ep6

I have to admit feeling a bit bad for the "second-class" Gamilans.

I've forgotten how they go about repairing the damage to Yamato. But it was good to see the animators didn't forget about it.

It's time to leave the solar system! Maybe in the remake they'll zip past Voyager.

Ep7

A fairly relaxed episode setting the stage for what's to come. It was good seeing Okita getting a chance to relax before the real journey begins.

It was quite a nice and relaxing episode to enjoy. As for Okita, he definitely needed the time to decompress and enjoy that quiet time, especially when he and the chief engineer were busy drinking to memories of what was and what's to come.

A good episode that explores the crew and their relationships.

It bugs me that CR is releasing these piecemeal, when there are streams of this series all over the net. Why do they do this like it?

Because Funimation is doing a weekly dub. and CR isn't getting ahead of that.

Ahh - makes sense! Thanks for that. I went ahead and watched it on another streaming site.. never seen it before. Was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Ep8

Dessler sets the stage for a little game with the Yamato. Okita shows his skill as a commander even under extreme duress.

Ep9

A classic tale of whether or not artificial intelligence has a "soul". Sanada, who usually seems quite heartless, showed a side rarely seen. And the parallel story from the radio broadcast was perfect.

Honestly, the single best episode of the series.

is this a new season? Or the same show that came out like 2 years ago?

It's the same but finally getting a legal stream outside of Japan. I'm really hopeful since Funimation is doing a "simuldub" they'll be able to sell the Blu-ray. The last release outside of Japan was aborted at Volume 3.

Ep10

They've switched to the snappier OP music I'm accustomed to. Okita shows once again why he's Captain: his cool in a crisis and his knowledge and experience. It's very Japanese that they would salute an honourable enemy.

Interesting, it's not that much of a change, but I'd never noticed it before. I wonder why the swap?

My thought? It changes the tone of the series. Before there was this slow, almost mournful music lamenting Earth's situation. Now the music feels more upbeat and hopeful.
