Like the title says. How do you obtain self control to do your work, clean, get up and do something with your life, exercise, not eat so much ice cream, etc.

Have any of you obtained this level of life? lol I feel hopeless because I'm so lazy

No point to self control it won't mean nothing when your dead. Indulge and spoil yourself as much as you want

moderation is key when it comes to food. thanks to a body/person's addiction to sugar, there really is no self control in the long run. if the body never had sugars and other refined things, it won't crave it, whereas once it has begun you can't really undo the damage, however you can lower your intake and force yourself to stay on said intake. an ideal thing, don't bring it into the house in the first place.

as for other things, set a task, keep to it and follow through. it can take a lot of will power to do things you don't want to do, putting it off until tomorrow really doesn't solve anything. simply force yourself to do a little each day. as for house cleaning, don't let the house get too dirty in the first place and break down cleaning so you're not overwhelmed in the first place. it takes time to control the body to such things, but it is possible. it's simply mind over matter.

Set goals and rewards. I dislike doing the dishes, however I have found if I play an anime and can at least listen to it in the background it makes the task more enjoyable. For work... well you have to like what you do, otherwise it will always be a chore. However you do so because you want other things in life. Such as a place to live that isn't a cardboard box.

Aristotle wrote to the effect that to become a good person, you simply pretend to be a good person by doing what someone like that would do until it is your habit. Then there is the teaching in Orthodox Christianity that a saint is not someone who never falls, but someone who falls daily and gets up again.

Quite simply, you must do it. If you want to be someone who keeps the house clean, go clean it now. If you tried that and did not keep it, but left the house dirty, then go clean it NOW. Not last time, this time. Keep doing that.

As to not doing something, you must decide not only to not do what you mustn't but to do what you must. Instead of sitting here wondering if you will eat that ice cream eventually (the correct answer is yes), go clean up like you should.

Also don't put yourself in tempting situations with excuses of how you won't make use of them. Don't buy a tub of ice cream telling yourself that it's for the whole month even though you eat that much in a week. You're PLANNING to eat it in a week; you know full well you only say that to shut up your conscience. Next week there'll be an excuse to replace the month's supply that's been used up.

Just this one time isn't a special occasion, either. You could have over-eaten last week because it was Christmas and this week because it is the new year and next week because someone brought cake to work and the week after because it's your friend's birthday and the next week because of the stress of the big project... You get the point. Every time there is a special excuse. No excuses. That means here, now, today, every day.

You don't obtain discipline and self-control and then you're done, it's something you work on and try to do a little better, every day.

Think about what motivates you, both positive and negative. People who have worked hard and achieved great things, and people who live in squalor and are going nowhere in life. Maybe that will help?

And remember:

You are the only light there is for yourself my friend.

1. The best person to motivate you is you
2. Perfection is impossible, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I've heard it said that we are what we repeatedly do; perfection, therefore, not a place but a process
3. Small breaks and moderation. Taking 5 minutes to not do work makes the next 20-30 minutes of work easier than if you just try and go ham for 8 hours straight.

One time I was told that if I didn't do something, I would almost definitely die within a year. Sure, that was dealing with cancer surgeries and chemo, but it did put things in perspective. Honestly I'd never had surgery and would pass out if I got too close to needles before that, but you can bet I found the self control to do all they wanted, very quickly.

I think the best way to deal with all of the above is to separate it.
What do you want to do - have fun, play games, whatever else fits
What must be done - eat, breathe, take medication, etc
What can you make more fun - just about anything can fit here.

I'd say fit as much as you can into the 'make more fun' category if you need to. If you want to exercise a bit more, get a small weight and do curls or squats with it when watching an anime opening. It's quick, easy, and will help, and the theme music can get you working faster. Treat ice cream as a reward for cleaning a room, and put sprinkles on it because your counters are clean enough for that now.

Don't worry if you can't get it all right all at once. Take steps and work towards your goal.

Meditating helps. It's just a matter of getting into the habit of doing things. Start now and the next time becomes easier until it's routine. Start walking then jogging. Before you know it you don't wanna eat as much junk food because you don't wanna loose your gains.

Use incentives and punishments. E.g if you start up far too late make the coffee you take bitter so you kill two birds with one stone by taking less sugar.
