It's very similar to Yami Shibai. Same themes and texture. Just more developed because of the length.

The "Long Dreaming" segment was interesting, the only one I really enjoyed so far.

The "Fashion Model" segment was so obvious, the dialogue even lampshaded it. I was looking for some kind of subversion, but of course that was too much to hope for.

Episode 3

We are into the third episode and it has to do with a transfer student named Ryuusuke who has a history in that town as he gave a fortune to a woman once and she killed herself because of it. The girl that Ryuusuke likes Midori was really lated to that woman and is worried about Ryuusuke avoiding her. She even has her friend ask him why she avoids her? Her friend even goes as far as to as the pretty boy at the crossroads to give her fortune and it's to worry about her love. Since Ryuusuke and Midori are having problems she tries to step in but Ryuusuke still likes Midori and this leads her to commit suicide in front of him. In order to stop the pretty boy he goes out giving fortunes and Midori worried about him goes out looking for him. She happens to run into the pretty boy but Ryuusuke happens to get to her before he can giver her a fortune. The second part is about a girl named Yuuko who has a big mouth and little by little she could hardly talk. One day she does not go to school so a friend checks up on her. She and Yuuko's mother find out that a slug is coming out of Yuuko's mouth so her parents make her bathe in tub of salt but this only ends up shrinking her body.

I found the first part with the crossroads more interesting and so far it's better than what we got in the first episode.

Damn pretty boys.

That sucks what happen to the slug girl. Guess someone just wanted her to shut up.

Another disappointing episode in a pretty disappointing series so far. Just like the in the first episode, the bit that made up the final few minutes was pretty good and suitably creepy but the story that made up the bulk of the episode was just boring.

The first part was properly disturbing. I'm curious of how prevalent (if at all) crossroad fortune-telling is in Japan.

I do wish the second part was a bit longer. A slug curse for being chatty? That's overkill. It might have been more engaging if there was more context. This image is strangely mesmerizing:

Most of this has been better than Yamishibai for the past 2 or 3 seasons.

Maybe this should be called the Junji Ito B-side Collection?

I like the OP, and the art is nice, clearly capturing Ito's style. The stories aren't really doing anything for me though. They're just too short I guess.

Lessons from this episode:

1. Don't get your fortune told by Japanese Robert Smith, especially if you live in a town that's prone to mysterious spooky fog.
2. If a giant slug is coming out of your daughter's mouth, maybe try putting salt just on the slug instead of making her get in a whole bathtub full of salt.

Edit to add: Is this better than Yami Shibai? The first two seasons, hells no. The later seasons- well, just about anything is better than that.

Finished watching ep 2 which I thought was way better than the first one. I don't find this show scary at all but the twists are very smart. Long Dream or whatever was really cool. That's what I want out of this show. I know nothing about the original source material but the creepier the better
