Some of her pranks border on mean spirited. She purposefully gets him in trouble all the time. I can understand doing things to make him blush, but getting him in trouble with the teacher seems pretty mean spirited. Then she stays while he performs his punishment of cleaning the room, it's obvious she wanted to spend time with him, but why didn't she at least help him? I guess the longer she could make the cleaning take, the more time she could spend with him.

Seems like she would also have lost the can throwing contest on purpose so that she could have kissed him.

The purpose of teasing someone you like is to get them to notice you, not to make them want to avoid you.

This show kind of reminds me of a reverse situation of "The Master of Killing Time"

Seems rather stupid of his parents to arbitrarily base their expectations of him on what the others in his grade level did.

Take these scenarios

100 people in his grade level

1) 50 people in his grade level score above 97 on the test. He scores a 96
2) 40 people in his grade level score above 65 on the test. He scores 65

According to his parents logic, in scenario 1, even though he got an A on the test, he failed to meet their expectations because 50 people scored better than him. In scenario 2, even though he failed the test, since he was in the top 50 of his grade level, he met their expectations.

So instead of helping him for his test, she does the total opposite. WTF!

She really is an irritating character and her laugh is not cute at all. Personally I'm finding the Takagi/Nishikata stuff too repetitive due to it all being one sided.

Also the teachers must be tone deaf if they can't hear her speaking so much during class.

I like the other characters though and wish it was more about them.

I'm liking this show. The last few episodes made it look like Nishikata is becoming aware of his feelings for Takagi, which I was not expecting.

That's just grading on a curve. If Sensei gives tough exams, he isn't unduly punished. If he gives easy ones, he isn't unduly rewarded.

or it could mean he has a bunch of geniuses in his class, or a bunch of morons in his class. Saying he needs to be in the top 50 is arbitrary.

Nishikata needs to trust his gut some more.

I'd like to see what would happen if he just ignores her for a while.

For example with the test score guessing...after the teacher threw the chalk at him for getting too loud in class, what happens if he says "forget it, I don't care what your score was" when she tells him to guess her score.

Or when she tells him a "secret" and says she likes him, and then takes it back and says she was lying. What if he said, "You treat me like dirt, so I never believed you liked me"?

Sure he's just a kid, but eventually he needs to figure out the best way to win is not to play the game.

Takagi-san's seiyuu is just too good. Her voice is very relaxing imho. Makes sense knowing who it is too. She always does great work.

Her little lie, not lie, was adorable. And then her running away blushing herself was too cute.

Wearing a boy's shirt is a pretty clear sign. Pick up on the signals already kid!

I think what I have liked most about this show is just how simple it is. no other boys/girls to muddy up things. No truly un-needed drama. Just simple comedy and rom/com elements.

It's all done very simple, yet in a very enjoyable way.

I'm sad that Takagi is getting some negative press, she's so sweet and gentle with Nishikata.

He could walk away but he wants to compete, and if you compete with someone too far ahead of you you're gonna lose.

I love this show, it has genuine warmth and makes me laugh out loud.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. It seems to me that part of the hate Takagi is getting is partially a result of the format of the show. If the show was shorter or there was a bigger diversity of characters it might be different but instead we're getting 20ish minutes every week of Takagi repeatedly doing nothing but teasing Nishikata. I don't necessarily mind it but I can see how the repetition may be breeding contempt.

One thing that struck me was when Takagi said she never lied to Nishikata. I think that's why I don't find her annoying. It's Nishikata who outthinks himself.

So much this. There are other girls who aren't gunning for Nishikata. It's refreshing.

This show started out cute with a healthy teasing relationship between Takagi and Nishikata where he'd often fall victim to her innocuous wiles. However, yesterday's episode pushed that teasing too far imo when it began to affect Nishikata's studies for an important test – like borderline bullying. Nishakata places a degree of trust in Takagi, even when he knows he shouldn't. Takagi says she never lies, but in each situation she twists what Nishakata perceives into a falsehood, just to see his reaction. Withholding important information, such as which test questions to study, is just an alternate form of a lie. And it's downright mean. Once she did that, I lost faith in this show.

Preach. It was cute at first but now she's following his ass, interrogating him and setting him up to fail. Yeah it took a turn for the worse this show. I'll give it 1 or 2 more episodes to turn things around. If it doesn't I'll drop it.
