I occasionally see comments that say "comment removed by administrator." What type of comments get removed?

I've moved this over to Site Support / Minor Questions.

That's not wording I recall seeing on CR -- I just see "This comment has been removed."

On episode comments those may have been spoilers from the manga or other source material. Or they might have been someone posting a link to a pirate site. Sometimes they were personal attacks in response to another user, or said something like "kys." Occasionally it's something that was very vulgar or otherwise offensive (for example, jokey rape remarks will be deleted.)

Sometimes it's simply that there was a duplicate comment (often due to a technical glitch) so one of them then got removed.

We also delete guest pass codes from comments, but you won't usually see a message when they've been deleted because they are usually top-level posts with no replies so once they are deleted there's not indication they were ever there.

There are lots of "My aunt's second-cousin made money fast, just click here" spammers that keep trying to get immortalized here.

When someone posts a guest pass code, after the first person takes it, it is just spam, so those should not get put in comment sections. (There's an official forum thread for that purpose).

When someone posts something like manga spoilers ahead of a current episode and then other users complain, those can get removed.

When someone posts a pirate site name, or encourages security bypass methods, or something that goes against the TOS.

When someone is abusive/racist, etc. towards others. Not simply profanity, but directed at someone.

Basically, anything that goes against the site rules: /library/Site_Rules

Likely guest passes/begging for guest passes, foul language, linking to pirate sites and other things that violate the site rules or the ToS which are, as usual, defined pretty broad.

(Site rules: /library/Site_Rules)
(ToS excerpt in the spoiler)

With that said, I occasionally come back to rewatch episodes that came out a few days earlier and find the complete comment section purged, I wonder what's up with that.

Instead of just looking at comments on the same page the video is on, have you ever tried adding "/comments" to the end of the url?

I find that for some reason the display of comments on the video page is unreliable (and sometimes will only show two or three comments when I know there must be more); I usually get a more complete list of comments when I go specifically to the comments page.

Huh, I didn't know about that little trick yet. I'll definitely give it a try the next time I notice missing comments, thanks for letting me know.
