Just saw it up on CR . I got the Armitage Matrix DVD from one of Cr's grab bags . It's only 480P here . Funi has it up in 1080P , including the 2 movies . Is it the dub-only that gets the HD ?

Woah, wasn't that from like.. 1995? I'm really confused about that 1080P version. Did they just upscale it or something? Can't imagine that it was redrawn, that would take a ton of effort.. but then again, possible?

I think it's just upscaled . However , the Funi website says 1080p , bot the Xbox One app says 486p . Efgo Proxy ead the same , until I pointed it out . They did change it to 1080p .

I always thought that commercial DVDs (never mind special PC burning programs) only ever held 480p content and you would need to buy Blu-Rays to get true HD. You can play a DVD in an upscaling Blu-ray player, and it will look better than an old DVD player, but the content is still only 480p.

I'm not completely sure I'm right though...

Ok... Poly Matrix or Dual Matrix?

OVA or Movie?

Big Armitage fan here...

The answer is that the original releases are old and they didn't get much fanfare.

Not helping the issue was that they hired relatively big name hollywood actors (Sutherland, and Berkley) to do the voice acting. Unfortunately, both were kinda shit voice actors (and the script was awkward in places too). Reviews panned it pretty universally on the voice acting alone.

They tried to update it with Dual Matrix, once again with big name (at least as big as they could afford) voice actors, and the sequel was kinda shit and the voice acting was just as terrible.

So....... yeah. Why invest in what most people view as being a turd? Especially when redubs and rereleases are super rare. (Ghost in theShell got one... it sucked, Akira got one, but that was about it that I can recall).

Polymatrix and the series are excellent though. There's a lot of great concepts and a lot of sociopolitical commentary that could have easily taken the ideas and characters in this franchise and turned it into a nice compliment to GITS.
