You know those anime girls with horns? When I see horns, I think of male animals. When a girl has horns, especially big ones, somewhere, my mind goes (?)

Female animals also can have horns. Typically they are smaller than a male's of the same species.

it's different and few, but at least it's present. too bad they have to toss into the notion those females with horns must be perverts as well. same with reverse harem, it doesn't happen too often but it does. as for females with horns, doesn't bother me at the very least. they are just characters drawn differently than other cartoons that's all, it's no big deal. and as stated, there are those animals in natural settings which have horns like their male counterparts. so why not cartoon characters as well.

Not a huge one on the horns either.

Not really into beast/human hybrid girls to begin with, though if I had to pick, I suppose cat ears are acceptable..

I'm aware of exceptions but the vast majority of horned species seem to follow this male only rule and that's what gets to me. When was the last time you saw an anime species where only the male people have horns? Moreover, horns exist to help their owners fight and be territorial which is a big contrast to the anime girl look and personality most of the time.

Don't get me wrong, I was a fan of horned girls too and I still am actually but then the thought crossed my mind: she's a female and she has horns like the male of the animal that she is a hybrid of. It's been nagging at my mind for a few months now.

Look at this, these little sheep girls have horns of full grown males for the species they represent

The best reason I could come up with is that it may make sense for humanoid species to have horns for both genders since they're both tall and conspicuous. Species that are short and can hide easily don't need horns.

I vaguely recall some where males were ugly and females were idealized human female equivalents..

As for mating or territorial fights. Hmmmm........

What about Elfen Lied? the males there had the horns IIRC...

Actual horns or small points on anime characters is very rarely about anthropomorphized animals.

They imply the horns of a devil or demon, leading many such characters to have "strong" personalities and quirks. It's an easy visual flag.

Cat/dog ears, long pointed ears, and horns or a halo are basically "hair extensions" a character can be drawn with to make them stand out. Some characters have permanent hairstyles, some with bright colors, some have a hairband or hat welded on ... similar to that.

Huh? Only females can have horns. There's only one exception in the manga.

You know what? I'll just see the horns as vestigial structures. I'm admittedly a bit tired of linking the horns to character traits.

As for obvious anthropomorphized characters: What's the point of making an animal person if you don't play up some of the traits? If you make that sheep person without horns ... she just has floppy ears that sort of looks like hair? Who's to say a male of the same ... whatever the character is supposed to be would have the same proportions?

If the dryad sort of character had tiny antlers ... how do you know she's not just wearing a a beret or something?

Anime style is exaggerated on most points.

It's been a while....

Ugly male/cute female in ToLoveRu

ANhow, I think the horn thing is just one of the many variations of the classic cat ears... it's just a fad..
