Ok, this is a very dumb movement... The synopsis for this show puts the following:

lugiamania wrote:
Anisong☆Station will serve to increase the popularity of anime song artists, both within Japan and overseas, through weekly episodes that share the latest anime song information, and will create venues for the greater use of anime songs. Various events that people can enjoy Japanese pop culture are planned in conjunction with the program, including Anisong festival. This multipronged approach to development will help to convey how wonderful anime songs, Anime, MANGA&Game to the entire world.

Overseas? Entire world? This argument doesn't mantain for 2 seconds when we see the territories:

Hey everyone, we've got a special new simulcast starting today that anisong fans can get excited about! Anisong☆Station is now available in the following territories: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands.

Seriously, what the hell? You promote a show that will increase the popularity of anisong worldwide, but it will be available for English speaking countries? Seriously? What the hell?

that's not uncommon, since, in a lot of cases, America is the leading location of where they can't get it as easily as the actual source of places such as Japan. and that goes the same for American made products branched out and easier to find in other locations. but at least they have something, it's not easy to find such things. so it's a start for the fans, it's not perfect and it's not going to make everyone happy, but it's better than nothing at all.

Yeah, but English is also the second (de facto) language in those countries.

Yeah, but at least Crunchyroll doesn't need to lie with that synopsis, or the Japanese licensor. That series WILL NOT promote anisong worldwide, but in a few countries. At least NHK World promotes culture and anisong worldwide (for example, the famous Songs of Tokyo program that included some famous anime singers, specially Aqours).

Well, Japanese music industry discriminates very much foreigners with their region-locks and the no use of Spotify. That's why K-pop is so popular overseas.
