Hey, just joined Crunchyroll because I enjoy Anime but I'm a noob when it comes to good shows.

Growing up in Eastern Europe, I was big into Sailor Moon, Tōshō Daimos and Dash Kappei, having come to the West, I've watched some anime but not as much as I'd like and I have a hard time finding stuff that I like.

I like Death Note, Gall Force, Venus Wars, Macross Plus and Studio Ghibli films.

I like sci-fi but also school dramas.

Any recommendations for this noob?

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It's not sci-fi or school drama but it's something you really should watch.

Gurren Lagann should work for sci-fi, really crazy but worth it. Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans is another great sci-fi (most of the Gundam shows are). Or you could go with darker sci-fi stuff like Ghost in the Shell, Akira or Neon Genesis Evangelion.

March comes in like a lion is an excellent drama.

Based on Death Note I think the first two might be to your liking. the third being a stretch but its generally well received. Red are ones I think you might like, Blue is probably based on your interests so far. Green are the ones that are a bit of a stretch for you but good starters IMO.

Psycho Pass http://www.crunchyroll.com/psycho-pass

Parasyte http://www.crunchyroll.com/parasyte-the-maxim-

Re:Zero http://www.crunchyroll.com/rezero-starting-life-in-another-world-

Seem like they would fit your interests. If your looking to expand your horizons a bit may I suggest...

No Game No Life http://www.crunchyroll.com/no-game-no-life (slapstick type humor, pretty much a classic)

Blast of Tempest http://www.crunchyroll.com/blast-of-tempest (Action/school neat use of Shakespeare)

Irregular at magic High http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-irregular-at-magic-high-school (School/shonen its a classic)

Mushi-Shi http://www.crunchyroll.com/mushi-shi (This one is really chill, more fascinating then moving or flashy)

Here are my suggestions:

Erased--Both the English dub and the Japanese version seem great!

Wolf's Rain--The English dub has gotten some praise, but personally I way prefer the Japanese dub with this one.

Cowboy Bebop-- Unless I missed it I don't think anyone recommended this? It's a classic and is definitely worth watching. They only have the subbed version on Crunchyroll, so I recommend checking out the dub version on Funimation's website. I believe you can watch the whole show for free on there. The English dub for this one is said to be one of the best dubs ever, so even if dubs aren't usually your thing I recommend checking out that version.

Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)-- I know that another user above already suggested Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but I also recommend checking out this version, the original series from 2003. The story of this version diverges quite a bit from the manga, which is a big reason why it gets a lot of flak. I absolutely love this version of the show though, and you may even prefer it to Brotherhood, depending on your tastes. Basically, there is no reason to pick and choose and I suggest watching this original version and then moving onto Brotherhood. You're likely to enjoy one or the other, or maybe even both! I love the English dub of this, but the Japanese version seems alright too.

Mob Psycho 100-- The animation may be off-putting at first, but give it a chance. I think it has beautiful animation, but because it can look a little weird sometimes people don't always give it a chance. Plus the opening theme. Oh my gosh the opening theme is amazing. If you end up watching and enjoying this show, I also highly recommend the manga, which recently concluded. The dub doesn't seem too bad, but I think I prefer the subbed version with this one.

Soul Eater--English dub! Though I have a feeling the subbed version is fine too.

Yu Yu Hakusho--an oldie, but a goodie in my opinion. English dub all the way unless it's not your thing.

Parasyte--Subbed definitely. The English dub just grated on me to be honest :/

Baccano!--Again, highly recommend the English dub of this one. It fits especially well since none of these characters are Japanese.

I think that's all I've got for now, though it's worth mentioning that these aren't all available on Crunchyroll. Some are on Funimation, Neflix Instant, or you may just have to buy some of the shows digitally from youtube, google play store, itunes, etc..

If you like sci-fi with a classic appeal you may like Valvrave the Liberator, Linebarrels of Iron, Aldnoah.zero and Buddy Complex. If you like school drama I'd suggest Blue Spring Ride, Convenience Store Boyfriends, A Bridge to the Starry Sky and Pet Girl.

I've been watching way too much sad anime. Between Orange and March In Like a Lion... man... I need something a bit more cheerful. Thanks for all the recommendations, my queue is getting massive.
