I'm paying for a Crunchyroll premium account and it's frustrating how every single weekend night I'm unable to watch any anime due to server errors. I gave Crunchyroll some time but its been MONTHS. What is the issue? Have they even recognized the issue and said they are working on it? Considering dropping my paid subscription because it doesn't seem worth it if the servers are down constantly. Btw this problem is happening me on every device I use including (Android, Website, and Apple TV) but strangely if I take the time to keep refreshing the app on Apple TV I manage to squeeze through and play an episode. I shouldn't need to go to all this effort if I'm paying though...

Saturday night and early Sunday are always server issues these days! They say use VRV but getting the accounts linked are nightmares and not simple! Now with this iOS app issue affecting users que and drop down second seasons access after the latest iOS update it’s a nightmare to use crunchroll now any time of day!!

This is pissing me off. I'm paying I should not be having these issues. If Crunchyroll does not acknowledge this issue soon, I'm just going to drop my subscription

Crunchyroll is ONLY a tiny service with a million subscribers and 20,000,000 million unique visitors! It’s not Amazon prime or Netflix or Hulu! Delays and non existent customer service are to be expected here! I mean they send a generic email when a app breaks so smile! Also constantly push VRV on paying members! Though it’s obnoxious when you open a app to see a embedded VRV app message for a app that’s just meh. My personal opinion though based on long term paying membership and the reaction I have gotten from moderators on this site were really a eye opener!

They have acknowledged it and quite a while ago.

The issue is how CR was originally designed. It wasn't meant to have heaps of people wanting to watch stuff on it at the exact time.
Shows like One Piece and mainly Dragon Ball Super are that popular that everyone thinks they need to watch them ASAP.
So as soon as they are out CR overloads and server errors happen. Just happens they are released on Saturday night in the US.
CR have attempted to slow it down by having a few hours gap between premium and free users being able to watch it. But I guess everyone just became premium so that didn't work lol.

But penguin More servers!! like everyone screams wont fix it as they also have the same issue mirrored. As it's a internal system issue.
Having a entire site and system rework because of one show that is apparently going to end soon is a waste of money. If on the other hand after DBS has ended the issue remains some questions will need to be answered.

My suggestions are.
Use other sites like Hidive or other legal streaming sites in your region at the affected times. Specially any that don't have DBS will be happy to see you. Free or as a paid user is up to you.

Don't reload smash!! Because if everyone does it it's the same affect as a DDoS. So anyone who is happy watching gets booted and if they then join the reload smash party. It only gets worse and worse...

:)

it doesn't help that Crunchyroll laid off many of its (likely senior) engineers responsible for maintaining the site and service.

After talking with people at Crunchyroll, it appears that there have been a number of layoffs at the company.
...
I received a swift response with a statement from Tom Pickett, the CEO of Ellation, and it read as follows:

We recently closed an acquisition to significantly expand the size of our engineering team. As part of company restructuring efforts, it is with regret that we needed to make some difficult but necessary changes at Ellation. This morning, we parted ways with 17 employees that played important roles in helping us grow the company over the last several years.
-Tom Pickett, the CEO of Ellation

To clarify, Ellation owns Crunchyroll and these layoffs were indeed of Ellation staff that worked on Crunchyroll. As for confirming the seniority of the people concerned, I was given an inevitable “no comment.”

They need to invest in technology for a growing site. Netflix, You Tube, ABC, NBC, CBS, The CW app, History channel and others stream fine through apps on the same network. Though CRunchyroll consistency is never even close to any of those services. It’s a wonder they are expanding with VRV a Lower quality site not focused at all while experiencing server and hardware issues.
