Okay so from my experience with exclusively using Xbox One to watch Crunchyroll and having to deal with this problem I've figured out whats causing it to crash due to a "Server Error". The way you can "quit" apps on the Xbox One (essentially a force close) is what is causing this error. If you are, 1. Watching an anime or 2. Browsing for anime or 3. Looking at the episode list for a specific anime and you quit the app this error will happen. The only way to prevent this is to press b on your controller until you back out fully to the home screen of your Xbox One AND THEN quit the app. Quitting the app without doing that or leaving the app open and not doing said method will 100% cause a server error the next time you go to use it.

Thanks, I’ve been having this problem for while and had no clue what caused it but I’ll keep that in mind from now on. So maybe next time I’ll actually have a successful night of watching my shows.
Cheers!

(Getting drunk just because I got a server error doesn’t help ????)

That doesn't always work , but usually does . I've been hit several times now (including today) of it happening . Dash boarding , as it use to be called use to be the fix it , but not anymore . I've had it happen on both my Xboxes (X & S) . So what I'll do is to grab my phone to see if I can load it from there . When the phone won't load , then you know it's on their end , not ours . Today shouldn't of been a heavy usage day like Saturday , but it's happening more and more during the week . I also just bumped my DSL from 20M down to 50M , so it's not an issue .

A workaround is not a solution. Crunchyroll really needs to get off its ass and fix this problem. Having your IP banned for an hour because their app failed to load properly just isn't acceptable.

But, yeah, OP is right. You can get around this issue by making sure the app is fully closed before launching it. The app seems to mess up when resuming from standby.

I've taken to hitting the menu button and checking that the app was closed, and closing it if necessary, before launching it again whenever I want to watch anime. It's dumb, but it works. The only time I run into server errors now is when I forget to do this.

Good to know. I gave up on the Xbox app because it would give me the sever error, and I wouldn't be able to access CR on any of my devices(PS4, Windows 10 app, Xbox, Iphone). When that happens, I could only watch in two ways. Through the website, or turn off my wifi on my phone and use my data carrier instead.

These last two or three seasons I've only watched CR on my PS4, and never had a problem like Xbox does. But as soon as I use the Xbox app, I get a server error. Then like bitwright mentioned. It seems like they must do something that locks you out your apps on your IP Address. Because when I try with my phone, and my network, I'll get an error. When I turn off my wifi, and use my data carrier, it'll work fine.

Just have to disconnect your Xbox from the Wi-Fi in the network settings then reconnect restart the app force close it your self and it starts right back up its the xbox on the network thats holding it up thats why it would work on your data

Well yeah of course this wont fix the overloaded servers but it helps a lot because on xbox even when there is heavy traffic you are usually able to get in

It is frustrating because not only does this affect usage on the xbox, but it also affects usage on the phone app. For the longest time I thought that the servers were crashing consistently almost every night because when it doesn't work on the xbox app, I check my phone and it's also not working, therefore leaving the app open and shutting down the xbox (which I do way too often because I just turn it off without exiting before bed) somehow also affects how it's working on the phone app? Like what? But then it works fine on my laptop... They seriously need to sort this out, it is obviously a common problem
