Please don't try to move to Japan as a resident. I'm not trying to sound offensive or anything like that, but if anime and a tad of cultural interest is your motivation please don't. Japan isn't the holy place anime makes it out to be, living there won't be easy and quite a lot of people there have a distaste for foreigners. For starters there aren't any subtitles there so you'd have to learn japanese which in itself isn't to complicated a language to speak, but kanji makes it nearly impossible to master. I'm getting sidetracked, anyways please do your research first and watch videos from japanese youtubers about their thoughts on you moving to japan. I'm sure it'll be very educational.

As much as I enjoy Japanese media, I wouldn't want to live there extensively for multiple reasons. For one the language barrier (The only other language I'm competent in is Spanish so good luck there), also being a woman keeping a job there would be more of a hassle than I'd bother dealing with especially if I get married or have a child. Plus I'd probably wouldn't fit in much since I'm not really interested in avoiding "rocking the boat" beyond expected politeness, I already ticked off one friend's Japanese parent because I said some Japanese are hypocritical in their prejudice against Korean migrants since the majority of the Japanese (who aren't of Ainu or other indigenous descent) are descendants of Koreans. Not to mention if something were to happen to me and for whatever reason, my kids can't be sent back to my family in my home country they'd have a crappy life since Japan's foster care system is heartbreakingly underfunded.

Vacation only. The cultural cons outweigh the pros, for me. I wouldn't be allowed to keep my electrical career, for one.

Live? I dunno. I'd like to spend a season there though. I could probably live in S. Korea though.

During my child years my answer was yes, as I did want to visit as a tourist and see many aspects of the Japanese culture. As of currently no is now my answer. I am not fluent in Japanese, and from some of the documentaries I have watched on YouTube, I do not want to experience discrimination from people not wanting to seat next to me on the subway for example or encounter some of the businesses that do not want to serve foreigners.

I am also curious of the actual crime percentage that is in Japan, as (if that information is true) I have read that many reports of harassment or assault are not reported by citizens or not mentioned in the news, which is among of the reasons that has me wary to visit or actually live there.

In one of my many dreadful timelines I would probably have to go there to visit a certain someone's grandparents. For now, I consider myself lucky to not have to live out of a suitcase. Perhaps I'll go one day, but only to experience the land and architecture.

On a vacation I would, but I wouldn't want to live there, at least not during the summer months. That said, I would love to take long vacations there, but in the end my home will always be in the US and I can't live without all those conveniences that Americans get.

Still no and I'm looking for tropical terrain atm. so I can farm coconut aminos, the best substitute for soy sauce. I see more opportunity in the hot and humid parts of the world than in Japan. Plus living in Japan is too much for my budget, so I'll just find my ideal country or rural tropical home and live like a king there (I would be like a rich Tarzan or like a relaxed and jolly Jack Sparrow).

Only really for vacation, the country is something I would enjoy for a week but hate for a year

It'd be cool to visit, but idk about living there.

I'd have to learn the language, let alone expenses, no family, loneliness. If I ever did I couldn't do it alone.
