The first thing that comes to mind is comparison of projected profits. Note the several positive responses in this thread, indicating the show will have fans. Then there's also the big picture long term strategy:

[INTERVIEWER:] But everyone in the [anime] industry knows [Crunchyroll].

KUBO (director of URAHARA): In this past year, they've really strived to reach out. They've been holding huge parties. So many people are involved with them now. Whenever I see someone, I'm like, “Oh, you're involved with them too now?”

TAKAHASHI: In just a year, huh?

KUBO: This past year has been like an explosion. Everyone's aware of them now.

And it may be that to a lot of CR users, this signifies misplaced priorities, but it looks like this ship's course is set unless droves of people unsubscribe because of technical deficiencies and apps that don't work.

I don't think most shows get high percentages. Anime is a whole medium, very diverse and fragmented in its appeal. I'm at 98 days watched on MAL, yet yesterday I saw a young user with five days watched, whose favorites were nine anime I haven't seen and one I have. None of them were obscure or low-rated; I just haven't seen them.

A year ago CR hit one million paid subscribers, and AFAIK has continued to grow rapidly since. 5% of one million would be 50,000 people for whom this show is a value-add for CR. Let's say they're all paying US $5 a month; over the three-month season that would be $750,000 gross income from those people alone. Of course in reality they're also watching other shows, and the other shows have other subscribers watching them beyond those 50,000... and so on.

I watched half of a YouTube video complaining that CR is helping to fund low-quality shows that "no one" wants to watch, like Two Car; but that ignores the CR co-produced shows that have been received well: A Place Further Than The Universe, The Ancient Magus' Bride, I Can't Understand What my Husband is Saying, Classroom of the Elite, Kemono Friends, Kino's Journey 2017, Kiznaiver, Laid-Back Camp, Recovery of an MMO Junkie, Restaurant to Another World, Space Patrol Luluco. Then there are the more criticized, but still very widely watched ones, like Citrus and Masamune-kun's Revenge. http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-1009327/anime-co-producedproduced-by-crunchyroll

Everyone who blanket-rejects CR simulcasts ("another weak season," etc.) should probably just unsubscribe once they've got their fill of catalog shows.

I have nothing against Mahou Shoujo Ore per se, more against CR's policy. But if it is as you say, I'll probably won't be renewing my subscription since I'll run out of anime to watch.

Ok I have about two or three questions rn. xD

1) What the actual duck is that?
2) We gonna get anything else this spring CR?
3) If answer to 2 is a "yes", then what exactly?

1) An adaptation of a Boys' Love web manga that ended at 12 chapters. https://myanimelist.net/news/33238145 I'd expect it to be a short, but I don't know if it's been confirmed whether it's getting full length episodes or not.

2) Maybe like 2 or 3... or 30 other shows. In most cases CR isn't allowed to announce shows they have rights to until close to (or even after) the premiere, so check back in 3-4 weeks.

3) My Hero Academia season 3 is confirmed on CR, here are Paul Chae's guesses at what else should or might be here: /forumtopic-1009025/spring-2018-anime?pg=2#57260861

Oh, I didn't know it was BL? (suddenly the butt-hurt makes sense... )

People who are freaking out about this being CR's "only" big title can calm down; they're just announcing this one early cause it's a co-pro; most of the licenses will be loaded on at the end of the month.

Personally I'm looking forward to it, sounds really funny!

You've been here for almost 2 years. Do you really need to ask these questions when you've seen the answers every 3 months during that time?

oh come now, Crunchy usually gets a good 20+ shows every season, heck the current batch is 35 shows. You should know that by now. They usually wait till closer to air date to annouonce stuff or for major conventions.

They have confirmed My Hero Acadamia season 3 so there is that

but honestly just have a little patience, there is going to be plenty of stuff and I'm sure some of it will be to your tastes.

as for muscly magical girls working for a yakuza fairy.....I'll check it out, can't say If i'll like it or not but it sounds funny and I've enjoyed crazy shows before. plus it's not the only magical girl + Yakuza show for the seasons so it'll be neat to compair this to Hinamatsuri.

(Dear Crunchyroll; please get Hinamatsuri)

I don't think the songs of angry men are all coming from people who know that; a trans man in a dress is in itself enough to turn off a lot of guys. (I'm not saying people should want to watch it; I'm saying it's silly to be mad over it. Fujo subscribers deserve something to relax to after work just like I deserve my moe shows, and CR has been co-producing both. Sure, it'd be nice to get some new GAR 80's action type shows too. But coproductions, by their nature, have to be something the Japanese companies also want to invest in right now.)

Yeah, it does sound funny. I still have a lot of catalog to catch up on, but if it's under 10 minutes long, I might watch it. I just started watching this short yesterday /the-highschool-life-of-a-fudanshi/ after hearing of it for the first time in that list of CR coproductions thread, and it may be the most hilarious show I've seen since Detroit Metal City and the first season of KonoSuba.
