Guilty Crown

Charlotte

Umineko

and
Someday's Dreamers 2: Sora

all are deserving of the title for me so it's hard to choose. Ohhhhh yeah ....
and
School Days.

Having finally watched it recently, I would nominate Magical Warfare (Mahou Sensou).

Yep was sooo disappointed with this show. It had what I thought was a really great setting concept, Then they pissed it all away through the course of the series, and then capped it off in one of the most WTF endings ever lol

To be bluntly honest? 75% of anime have mediocre to terrible endings. -.-

Probably going to get slack for this one but I think the one I hated the most was the ending to Steins;Gate. I don't think I ever felt so let down from an anime before. See I could pick an obvious one like School Days but I went into that ending with little to no actual investment in the characters or story so it just didn't have any punch. It hurts when the rest of the series sets such a high expectation going in.

Great start, amazing and engrossing middle and just completely lackluster ending. The tension in the story completely stopped in the final 1/3 of the series the moment the date episodes start and it never really managed to recapture it for me. I just expected so much more and instead felt like the ending was just very straightforward and clear cut with aspects just feeling lazy and overly hammy. I know there are people who consider this one a masterpiece and I get why, but I was just expecting more from it. The sequel movie that came afterwords didn't help matters either as it basically just felt like a pointless watered down version of the TV series that added absolutely nothing to the series and made no effort to change or raise the status quo.

Death Note was also a huge let down as well. Though it would be more fair to say the entire 2nd half of it more than just the ending itself.

Bleach was pretty dumb, but I can't say I think it would be better if they continued on the manga like some people feel. I think the manga manages to have an even more poorly executed ending then the anime does but that might just be me. It's like a good chunk through the last arc Kubo just said fuck it and decided to drop a ton of plot points and rush out an ending as quickly as humanly possible.

From the shows I've seen...

If we count sequel movies, then Kimagure Orange Road. A fun comedy-romance series with psychic powers suddenly turns into a bleak romantic drama with no sign of psychic powers. And the way Hikaru gets treated by her two "friends" really sucks.

If we don't count sequel movies, then Neon Genesis Evangelion. I realize some people love the last two episodes... somehow... but to me they were a complete waste, with no actual resolution to the plot. (The End of Evengelion movie fixes that nicely for me, though.)

I'll give you the ending to KOR. I personally liked it (both movies included) to an extent, minus the really ugly character designs in the second movie lol. Hikaru was going to get the short end of the stick regardless. She couldn't see from the jump that Kasuga didn't like her, and was instead interested in her friend. Sure, I felt bad for her but she was in the way of what they really wanted. That's how shit goes sometimes

The last 2 episodes of NGE was the full instrumentality experience from EoE, therefore if the last 2 episodes weren't around then EoE literally would not be as impactful or make sense with Shinji making the choice he did at the end. But, if you didn't like the last 2 eps that's ok lol.

I expected to see this one come up, but I thought it was a good ending. I know it's controversial, though. Likely always will be.

I thought the Steins;Gate ending was great.

I read the VN, and I think the anime actually did a poor adaptation of the ending, and ruined a really emotional moment by some things it did earlier. I will agree, the date part of the show and VN were low points though.

For me it was definitely Death Note. Amazing anime, horrible ending. I never could really relate or like the new characters that suddenly appeared near the end.

Two types of endings are especially bad:

1) The "None-Ending" where the author just drags the story towards infinity, milking the cash-cow
(N/Boruto, Dragonball, One Piece, etc.)

2) The show basically ends were it started, no real achivements, no plot movement
(Typical Harem Setting or a 1000 Chapters story where just 1-5 get animated)

Contentwise I would not try to judge it, because thats up to the author how s/he sees things have to go.
So even a mess like "School Days" has its own right to exist.

Maybe they'll have an OVA with a better ending?

Yea that was a HUGE middle finger.

To the author himself as well. The dude hated it and said so in a public statement. What's worse is he obviously got in some legal trouble over saying it and had to retract the statement for another that was quite obviously influenced by someone else. It was an absolute shambles of an ending in every regard.
