Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo
April 6-8, 2018
McCormick Place Convention Center, Chicago

Is anyone going?

This isn't strictly an anime convention, it's general pop culture, and to be honest, about 70% comics related. There is definitely an anime presence, however. Funimation and Crunchyroll are both doing panels, and have booths on the trade floor. There will be a panel for the upcoming FLCL sequels, an Attack on Titan panel, one for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and others. The trade floor always has a decent amount of anime related merch, from collectables to manga and anime dvd's. They are also working with the Carolina Manga Library and doing a reading library this year, and are promising over 5000 books, including lots of manga.

I'm going on Friday, educators can get a free pass for Friday. For those not familiar with the area, it's less than a mile and an easy walk to Chinatown, which has tons of great food and a couple places that sell anime stuff (although you need to watch for bootlegs).

I survived a very long day at C2E2 on Friday. I was there from about 9:45 am until 7:00 pm, then walked to Chinatown and met my husband for dinner. I made it to three panels.
Phil Lamar was fun, a pretty typical panel, but enjoyable.
The Funimation panel was meh. It was basically them showing trailers for their dvd sets, and reminding everyone that they were available on the sales floor. The promised announcements were for upcoming dvd sets, not new shows they've picked up. An hour long commercial for Funimation product.
The FLCL panel was really great, easily the best panel I've ever seen at a fan convention. Read about it here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-945095/flcl-season-2-and-3?pg=4#57440875

When not wandering the sales floor or at a panel, I hung out with some friends, and went outside to shoot photos. At one point I found myself on a service drive that ran under the convention center, and shot some photos in that industrial/creepy looking setting.

All said, a fun, exhausting day,
