I'd love if crunchyroll starts to flag or something else that let's us know when a show has too much fan service. It's getting really tiring... most of the new shows are pure fan service or cliche. Am I the only one who thinks like that?

Normally you can tell by looking at the picture. Or read the reviews before watching?

"Too much" is a matter of opinion. Before you watch a show go to Anime News Network, they usually will tell you if the show has any at all. That way you can avoid it.

shounen series tend to have quite a bit of fan service, since it's target audience is teen males.
your best bet may be to check MAL and see if a particular series have an 'ecchi' tag (probably still not fool-proof, but close)
another tag to look out for is 'harem', which usually has ecchi.

You are not alone, I find that in the recent years it's been getting worse and worse. Sex sells but fan-service just for the sake of it is getting out of hand.

Embrace it, some of us have no significant others....this is a good as it gets for us.

But seriously, there are lots of series that don't have fan service. You just gotta know what to look for. See the answers above mine, MAL and Anime News Network are decent starting points if you're looking for something new. A little research goes a long way.

Yeah, I was going to post this as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually also someone who doesn't really enjoy a ton of fan service but I'm also someone who has no real issues with it in some shows where fan service is part and parcel of what they're going for. I also find I almost definitely have a different take on exactly what is and isn't fan service, and how much a show needs (and in what contexts) to actively turn me off of a show.

Put simply, there's very little that a simple "Fan Service" tag could accomplish that wouldn't probably end up causing more trouble than it would solve.

I, for one, feel there isn't enough fan service, and what is there could stand to be liberated from the confines of censor bars and steam. Let freedom ring from hill to hill!

Seriously, though: I don't much care about it either way, and I'm not sure what standard you'd like to have applied for determining when a tag for fan service should be applied. Isn't it pretty much the standard for applying the "ecchi" tag we already have? Actually, what are the standards for applying that tag? Anyone know?

There sort of already is a set of tags for this. Avoid anything with the ecchi or hentai tag and that should let you avoid the worst of the fan service. Beyond that just check out people's descriptions and reviews of the series.

I personally don't mind sexual content in my anime, but I absolutely hate unnecessary fan service that gets in the way of good story telling. Harem anime are my pet peeve, because it is not just absolutely blatant, pandering, fan service, but it completely ruins the dynamics between the characters and turns the entire show into this trashy, self-insert, wish-fulfillment fantasy instead of a proper story.

I couldn't care less about a lingering camera shot on a nice pair of legs or the occasional gratuitous pantry shot, but I draw the line the moment an anime starts pulling crap like derailing the story for a completely superfluous scene where the cute female characters trip and fall into a fountain and blow the entire episode's animation budget on five minutes of slow motion jiggling and splashing.

A couple of my other pet peeves are whenever a show treats like an 8 year old as a sex object or they make incest out to be a healthy and sexy thing.

Also, I think there is a huge difference between sexual content and fan service. A gritty seinen anime could have a very graphic sex scene in it as part of the story and not be fan service while some harem shonen anime with endless panty shots and accidental boob gropes could be chock full of pointless fan service without ever showing anything more explicit than a kiss.

While I agree that fan-service has gotten ridiculous over the years, and the amount of originality has pretty much disappeared from the genres that tend to use it, I'd like to note that not all genres of anime embrace fan-service. So if it bothers you, then I suggest trying something from a different genre, even if it's something you normally wouldn't be interested in watching, because when you get burned out on something, it's typically a sign that your ready for a genre change up.
And to paraphrase what was stated earlier, when fan-service is concerned, you should always judge a show by it's cover.
I'd also like to note that Crunchy has been adding a lot of older shows from Funimation's archives, if nothing on the simulcast works for you, then you might find something of interest there.

I legit have no idea if this is a joke thread or not, but in the rare chance that it isn't, my serious response would be what exactly does the OP consider "excessive" fanservice? If it's a series with nothing but tits & ass like Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia or Keijo!!!!!!!!, they already do have an ecchi tag.
