Aoi seems quite generic. Which would be understandable if from an otome game, but the source is a novel. There should have been MC appeal right from the start, e.g. first chapter, or readers won't continue reading. Since I haven't read the novel, just wondering if her character wasn't captured well in the adaptation, if she develops more later, or if that really is all there is to her...?

As for her grandfather's contract, did Aoi actually read it? She saw the signature. But if she didn't read the wording (especially if there was fine print), that leaves open all sorts of possibilities.

Episode 2

Opportunity knocks for Aoi as the tengus there are complaining about the food. She meets Matsuba, who is a close acquaintance of her grandfather. He had some screws loose in his life, but he did teach Aoi how to cook. As it turns out, Matsuba fell out of an airship and he is in possession of one of Shiro's treasures that he passes down to Aoi. She is given the opportunity to marry a tengu out of debt, but her prior obligations stop her from following through. Pretty solid backstory that was going to show how crazy Shiro is, and how Aoi is dedicated to making things right.

It was okay. The show is trying to get me invested into Aoi's role so far and it's working somewhat. I'd still hope to see her personality develop more though as she feels like a character that would take a lot of time to evolve.

The setting still looks decent for a modern fantasy show but I hope they do some world building too.

The production value is rough around the edges and a little on the slow side, but episode 2 was still pretty enjoyable.

By modern standards the animation is definitely lacking but there's an earnestness to the story I'm drawn to. And the voice acting has been quite good which helps make up for the rough art style. Just have to not pay to close of attention to the mouth flaps. =P

The mouth flaps aren't bothering me so much as the ever changing size and position of the Ogre's horns.

Poor Aoi. Everybody knows her grandpappy, and it's such a weight on her chest. But at least she has official permission from her boyfriend to play at being a cookery.

Episode 3

Into the hidden realm goes Aoi, and it's not exactly a place that's friendly towards humans. But that fan came in handy to sweep away any dangers she encounters. In the end, Suzuran was rescued as she was sold off to the Yahata-ya and had an arranged marriage with the head of the house, which is not a good thing. So after all that, it's back to the inn where she's making new dishes, but in the meantime O-Ryo has collapsed. That was a decent episode there going to show what kind of place the hidden realm is.

Sigh, I don't like that O-Ryo much. I bet she has feelings for Oodanna...

I think the episode was decent. Considering Aoi hasn't been there for long, she is starting to learn how to defend herself but I think she should still be careful when wondering around town alone.

Suzuran is so pretty :o

Episode 4

O-Ryo tells her story, and she's hard at work to get on the master's good side after he saved her from a mean mistress who scolded her for breaking a plate. And while that's going on, a battle between sibling spiders breaks out as Suzuran is dead set on visiting the real world, and Akatsuki doesn't want that being hateful towards Shiro. Pretty much, this episode explains the backgrounds for O-Ryo and Suzuran as they feel indebted, thus they strive to work hard at the inn. And that battle between spiders was amusing.
