Just so you know, this is a prequel to the Fist of the North Star series, so there's not really any need to have watched the original Fist of the North Star to watch this.

Episode 1

This is CG, but Polygon Pictures is an expert at it, so it comes off really nicely. Quite an interesting start to this show as there's lots of hostility as I would expect. As with other shows in this franchise, the action is the highlight. I only watched bits and pieces of the main Fist of the North Star franchise, so I somewhat knew what to expect out of this. Anyway, things are about to get heated in Shanghai now that Kenshiro and Erika are headed there as it's a battle of the mafias.

The CG isn't bad but the inconsistent frame rate is a bit problematic.

I'm sorry to say that I had a really hard time getting past the CG. I kept thinking "if I turned off the volume, would I have any idea what emotion these characters are expressing?".

It's amazing how much can be conveyed with simple, hand-drawn art, and what a long way CG still has to come.

So this follows Ryuken's older brother, Kasumi Kenshiro. Who apparently had adventures during WW2, but otherwise kind of follows the plot of the Fist of the North Star?

At least it is easy to know who all the main characters are, because they have bull necks and are about 16 feet tall.

Is the CGI animation really that bad? I didn't watch the new Berserk because i heard nothing but bad things about the animation.

It's nothing to whine home about, the CGI animation, but it would probably have been better to go less 'three-dee models' and more 'CGI cel-shaded'.

So plot happens, and we find out how Guise got cooked. Dead Bird even gives us some backstory about Erika's childhood.

I remember there being a Souten no Ken series like 10 something years ago. Is this a sequel to that? Or is it a remake?

Apparently the answer is 'yes, it's a sequel/continuation'.

Despite nobody talking about this, Kenshiro continues to deliver dialogue explaining the backstory of how it came to be that he is being hunted by a cowboy. Erika's story languishes in an altered state.
