HowlingLotusI guess it wouldn't be a season without some CGDCT, eh?

Well considering the amount of Shonen battle and other action anime this season, having some CGDCT to unwind with is great in my book.

This is a strange one to me given how last season we ended up with what I would actually say was too many Cute Girls Doing Things shows to the point where some otherwise good ones just sort of blended in and were likely overlooked or will likely be forgotten because of it (and I say that as someone who is generally a fan of the "genre"). This season we do have relatively few of them. lol

The other characters are okay so far though I can feel Moeta is going to get on my nerves with her constant, constant self-doubt and self-loathing and just so, so down on herself to the point she belongs in therapy, not a half-way house for mangaka.

I actually liked Moeta quite a bit, and she was one of the highlights of the show for me. While it's true that her constant self doubting and anxiety could drag a bit (or a lot) depending on what they do with it, it still felt refreshing to me. So many shows of this variety rely on a super genki MC to push things along even when they're often the least talented or capable ones in the room. Moeta, from her personality to the "cute but not perfect-ness" of her visual design plays against this type nicely for me.

This is more than Cute Girls Doing Cute Things. Usually I drop all the CGDCT because they get boring and pointless. But this was different, it was more like a Blend-S type of comedy.

Also those amazing backgrounds. I thought I was watching a Shaft series. So good.

Episode 2

It's off to the city where the girls are shopping for art supplies on the last day of Golden Week. They get sidetracked by so many other things, such as buying Tsubasa's manga even tough they can get a free copy back at the house, and they end up broke with Tsubasa offering to help out with their purchases. Then it's off to school where Tsubasa is popular, while Kaos is starting school. Things don't exactly start off well with that awkward introduction and bringing her art supplies instead of her pencils and pens. Kaos just continues to be the ditz there as she has a lot to learn about everything.

Jesus Christ, that scene with the cat.....too cute.

Second episode is filled with fluff and it was adorable. However, I think Tsubasa is still the best girl in this show. No wonder she has admirers at school.

Episode 2

For the second episode we have the girls going to buy art supplies but get distracted checking out comics and eating crepes. When it comes to art supplies Tsubasa dashes off to buy what she needs and even helps out rookies who are just getting started. However the girls seem to forget that Golden Week is over and have to get ready for school. At school its no surprise that Tsubasa is popular and has lots of fan girls. On the other hand Ruki is also popular but no in the good way as some rumors have spread about her job. Since they are hiding they are manga artist rumors would spread. When it comes to making a good impression Moeta fails at that as she is too shy but Koyume on the other hand makes friends really quick. It later turns out she is going to use them for material for her manga. In the end it's discovered that Moeta makes friends with animals and even finds a kitten thats just like her. This episode had a lot of funny and cute moments and Tsubasa keeps showing us why she's the best girl in the series.

I don't like anime's where they make anime's. Mostly because I can't relate and I'm no artist so I don't really care about this type of series. I'm not well versed in anime tropes either. I'm sorry I have no idea on anything they are doing in terms of buying art supplies and drawing styles. Not for me pass. I really like the real scenes.

Not the worse thing I ever seen, it can work, not watching anymore not falling for the obvious moe. Better than most manga / anime making animes. 7/10.

I don't

Bonus points for real looking scenes, it fits well with this anime

I was going to complain Ruki is kinda just there as the writers don't seem to be willing to commit to her trope as the lewd manga artist but then the preview for the next episode rolled and perhaps that's about to change.

Either way Tsubasa is definitely stealing the show.

The three styles sketch was pretty cool. Ruki missed out for some reason (perhaps her sketch might have been inappropriate for a public venue). I really liked the art supplies segment. Usually, when I go to the mall, I walk past the art and office supplies section without much of a thought. However, when I walk past a section with tennis or bicycle supplies, I feel so excited and look at items with the same enthusiasm as these girls. I suppose that's one way to figure out what people's interests are: observe their shopping habits and note which store brings out the most enthusiasm.

^ damn straight. This girl is going place.

This show.. oh my gawd this show.

I can't really explain it. It's just so damned good. Yes it is CGDCT, but it also has substance. It has great and interesting characters. It has great pacing, art direction, animation, musical queues, voices, everything.

I can't gush over this enough after only two episodes.

I can't wait to see how the girls grow together, form their friendships more, and push each other to not only grow their craft, but as people and being happy and content.

This scene had me dying like no other. Had to replay it a few times just for the giggles:

Um, nothing that hasn't been done 50 times already but, for what it is, it's better than most like I said in my previous comment's.
