Well... um... first episode. Yeah. That happened. It felt less like anime and more like being dumped into the trenches and being peppered with high-speed fortune cookies stuffed with segments of the plot. I felt genuinely uncomfortable watching it. In terms of actual plot, there's nothing really hooking me as of yet. Hopefully things'll pick up soon.

Barely relevant side note: Is "Gayus" a particularly common spelling of that name? I've only ever come across "Gaius" before, myself.

It's a Latin name, and it wasn't spelled that way in Latin. Sometimes Caius though.

Yeah, there was a lot here that I didn't understand, especially about the setting. The info dump in the first minute or so wasn't really helpful, and it kinda felt like they were trying to cram too much in at once, so they were just skimming over bits...or maybe this is my brain telling me to go to bed because I need sleep.
It does kinda seem like it has an interesting premise, though, so I'll give it a couple more eps to see if it picks up.

Wow, that was just too crammed to enjoy whatsoever. As other pointed out, they are just sprinting through every facet of the story with no breaks and little attention to detail. The premise of the futuristic city with old world elements seems interesting, but fails to convince with so little effort put into even a single character so far. The political drama they have going on doesn't seem very interesting yet. It really just feels like hopped on an express chopper and checked out the entire city in just a few minutes.

One thing that really bothers me about the plot is the garbage bin of elements they brought together to make a story. Sure temporal rifts and alternate dimensions with sword fight are cool. So are dragons and government conspiracies. But all together in one show?! All we need now are robot samurai and shinobi right? The first fight scene was likely a flub, I see some promise to deliver on great action so maybe they will improve there. The characters are just awful and I can't tell if it's the pacing or if they're hopeless from the start. Of all the things I hated I absolutely abhor the dull, ordinary lines; trash tier, I nearly fell asleep.

From the look of it this might be an intentionally complicated "smart guy" type of show where they expect viewers of a certain IQ. Overall I see nothing worth watching in this one apart from the unique dragon designs that are pretty well detailed. It's also possible the studio behind the show will just ruin the story all season long with this pacing. 2 great shows I liked that got ruined by similar pacing are Black Bullet and Taboo Tattoo. Just because the pacing makes the story look bad doesn't mean there's nothing there. As for me I'm out, can't watch this one. Will keep an ear out I suppose, but at best I'd wait until the season was over to hear how it turned out.

Dragons...magic...giant swords...odd couple...elf girls...politics... religious deep state...serial killers, that was more bloated than Grancrest War. I feel like the guy from the Monty Python movie 'I couldn't eat another bite' and this show is the waiter 'finally monsieur a waafur thin mint', "no", ' ahh sir it's only a tiny little thin one', "f' off I'm full", 'its only waaafur thin', "I'm absolutely stuffed I couldn't eat another thing bugger off", 'ahh just ONE', "alright just one"....boom.

Also the urban dictionary definition of Gagina LOL

Well, I can only echo the comments already made. Too much of everything. As I watched I kept thinking "ah they managed to get that in too, check!". For example political conspiracy- check, someone trying to kill the MC(s)- check, and the list goes on. All in the FIRST episode! And as other people have said with so much going on it was more than a bit difficult to follow what was going on.

On a side note, I find it slightly ironic how often dragons are bad in anime/manga considering that they are traditionally venerated in Asia. It is the opposite of what has happened in the West where dragons were traditionally evil but in modern literature are most often cast in a positive role.

Episode 2

We are into the second episode and it doesn't get any better. We start off with Gaius spending time with his girlfriend and asking her how much she loves him and than gets in the mood. However he gets cock blocked by Gigina when he calls with a job for them. I found it funny how Gingina has a lot of woman around town and that Gaius is worried that Jiv could also be one of them. Gingiva reassures him that Jiv is a scary woman and to not worry. Most of the episode we see Gaius and Gingina body guard someone and than later Gaius catches up with a friend and we find out more about his past. Finally at the end we get some action when Gaius and Gingina happen to run into the Jushiki killer.
They had a rough time but in the end the killer gets away and we can expect rematch in the future. So far the second episode was a improvement from the first as there was not a lot of things happening making more easy to follow.

Well, I'm in two minds about this show now. Ep 2 has definitely held my interest somehow, but I can't say I'm sold on this. Should've given up after the first episode; would've been easier then. Main characters are still kinda boring to me and there's plenty more world-building, just in case the mass exposition in the first episode wasn't enough (though, granted, it's slow enough to actually follow this time around). There are also one or two scenes that I have a hunch might've been intended as jokes, but I can't tell at all. Not to mention when Gayus first mentioned Jushiki types in the bar scene it took a little too much time for me to work out exactly what he was on about. The entire show is still a little lacking in the "user-friendly" department, in my opinion. I get that they don't want to hold the viewer's hand, but there's definitely a nice middle ground to be struck here.

The plot appears to be converging though, so I can see a light at the end of the tunnel for once. This actually had me wanting to know more too, which is perhaps the most important part. Though that may have more to do with wanting to see Mouldeen end up as a key antagonist rather than any real investment in the show per se. Best character so far, he is.

May drop this depending on my workload and time constraints over the week; definitely will if the third episode shows no more promise than this.

This week on Dancing with the Seven Stars:

Some people are really angry about something. Protagonist bangs his half-Alluring girlfriend, but things get awkward when his work-husband calls. Protagonist and Dr. Draken meet up with Cardinal Maldives, who sees their resume of dragon-slaying, and decides the best job for them is tour guides. Some politics happen, then Protagonist gets drunk. Draken then takes his pet for a walk, they reaffirm their hate for each other, and they're attacked by Daenerys Targaryen. They have a magical battle, except it's not really magic, and they all run away. Also, everyone uses a bunch of made up words and phrases.

All-in-all, I'd give this episode seven stars out of twelve generals: I don't get it.

P.S. I don't watch Game of Thrones, so that reference may or may not make sense.

Episode 2

At least Gayus and Gigina get to battle the lady who is out for blood at the end of the last episode, but getting there just didn't cut it at all. I was totally lost as to what happened leading up to the battle and what exactly the point of all that as those two got hired to be bodyguards at a festival. And then Nidvork strikes wanting to take revenge on those guys. The action is nice, but the story was just a snoozefest. I'll stick with it a little bit longer seeing that at the very least the action is good, but hopefully the story doesn't drag it down as bad as it has been.

I enjoyed this second episode quite a bit. Most of the stuff they spewed all over the place in the first episode was pretty quickly connected and explained in the second. I'm liking the main characters even if their partnership is one we've seen a whole bunch of times before. The only real issue I have at this point is the yelling out of special moves/techniques or mid fight explanations of your/your enemies powers. Sorry, but that never actually comes across anywhere near as cool as far too many writers think it does.

It was almost interesting how Gigi creeped on the bartender's furniture and Gay was only drunk until something useful happened. Gravity Mage Niptuck of Ork... still makes no damned sense.
