Due to the nature of how governments here ban stuff like touching female bits for rewards in games I kinda go well Id rather a translated censored version then a non existent version. Because it's easy to end up with nothing here as one 5 second joke from a game is enough to see the thing banned.

I just wish Japanese etc developers didn't go down the feel they need to add weird stuff to games that would get them banned here. Because it's part of the reason why some English versions end up censored.
Make it for the lowest allowed and give everyone that version because it's a lot cheaper then making multiple versions for all English regions. Which is likely the reason CR decided to censor/restrict it in the first place.

Anyway for someone not in the know what actually was the touching part about exactly. Was it just making the parts jiggle and a eeek no don't touch me there? or was there an actual reward for doing it?

This is hilariously stupid thought process, EU laws sure. But in NA, touching wouldn't require the game to be censored.........at all. You do know games such as Senran Kagura allow you to touch as much as you want all over the damn place.

I think that he may be from Australia, they censor and ban stuff hardcore over there.

This got me a bit disillusioned.

I really love Crunchyroll, I have good associations with it, I get in a good mood only from seeing the logo and I'm a happy paying costumer. Sure sometimes I can't see something I would like to see in my region and that sucks but whatever. I also really enjoy the PS4 app.

However I get really worried when the company starts to see itself as being in a position where it can deem what is and isn't appropriate for me. Now if they want to deem something inappropriate for themselves so that they don't want to carry the product that's fine. If they don't want to sell a game because something in it objectifies women then I'm fine with that, they can make judgments on what type of products they want to supply and I will keep paying them for the products that they do supply because I enjoy those.

The issue here however is that they bought the IP, and then censored the product, and then indirectly stating that it was for my sake.
No.. Just.. No.. If you don't think the product is appropriate for your company then don't license the IP, let someone that doesn't have an issue with it have the IP then. When you take my money and buy the IP for a product, and then change the product, you're using my money to deny me access to the original product. That's not cool. Spitefully suggesting that we buy the Japanese version when you know that most of won't be able to enjoy it is also not cool, what kind of PR is that? And as you licensed the IP, it's only you that will be doing an official translation so we don't have the option of going somewhere else. Not cool.

I'm not paying you 10 bucks a month for you to make judgments on my behalf on what is appropriate for me and then censoring products based on that. I'm paying you 10 bucks a month for you to supply products that I enjoy in the state they where produced only *slightly* altered for me to be able to make sense of them, maybe by replacing a joke or something. I make my own judgment calls by choosing what I want to watch or play or buy. That's it.

If this keeps up I'm quickly going to find myself in a position where I want to keep paying for your services that I enjoy only to conclude that it just wouldn't be appropriate for my money.

I doubt this is gonna have any effect on things. Crunchyroll is burning bridges with this move, yet the whales will continue to whale and the others will go WELL WHO CARES, GAME IS STILL PLAYABLE.

First they came for___

Then they came for[insert random anime of your choice you were looking forward to in the future.] because it's not something we deem you're ok to handle!

Ding ding ding we have a winner.

In case you wonder who is behind it.

I wasn't trying to talk for everyone sorry if it came out that way. I just didn't want to post a 500 word thing on it so I attempted to shorten and I guess I may have deleted a extra sentence here and there which changed the tone a little bit more then I expected.
Also lack of sleep for the past few weeks (5am currently) I'm meant to go into hospital next month to see why. Likely doesn't help things.

In short:
No I'm not defending CR. A reddit post about how CR does apps even before the game was released may explain more then what people at the time thought. it's a shame we don't have the ability to ask the higher ups questions. They likely only want one app and one server so doesn't matter if country A is okay with it the lowest they plan on releasing it is the one that will be how they follow it. Due to how CR's owners run their app business arms.

I'm not trying to talk for everyone just looking at it from another side.

Personal opinion only: Id rather a watered down version then no version at all. If that is what it came down to.
Its so easy for a game to end up on the nope list here for what is considered minor eg a real word legally obtained drug name.
You can't say an item is morphine but painkiller/s is ok. No idea who decided that was a thing that needed to be a thing.

Ironically I would not even be interrested in that mobile game. But I am a bit allergic aganst people that claim to know what is best to me. Also this is in the short run only a tiny effect I can create but I can not support any company that wants to play thought police and decide waht I should think or not.
So have fun with your utopia hope it gets not to empty. To make a compare think about Detahnote and the Kira about the discussuion that nur the one should live that fit his moral standard. I think the result was hinted to be a pretty empty world.

Oh and by the way it is not even the cencorship itself, it is how you guys defended it, I just can not stand this kind of ugly behavior, you run still a service.

It really is the official response and lack of communication that's angering people. Would be good if Crunchyroll had a stabler PR group, but they haven't for years.

An other problem is that they now also created a distrust case. Like tehy even advertised that feature that is not there and created a new definition of censorship.
Even if I we assume for a moment that they made the right choice for enlish people that can not decide on their own, as it looks like, it is still a lie to people.
Hey even would not have bothered to cancel my account if it would not have been their attitute in that regard. Aside of that I am genrally not ok with cencorship aside of things that must be done because of laws. These are still not ok but still better than have no product at all. Hey at least I have a reason to learn more japanese again, so I guess I have to say thank you?

This

I'd be more offended by the fact that they act like English audiences need a nanny, or the fact they claim to know what is best for us, than about the censorship itself.

I'd respect them much more if they just said "hey, we don't necessarily think this stuff should be removed, but we don't want the main stream media picking a tiny feature in our game and using it to vilify us, our fans, anime culture and the game industry in general"

Hi, just a quick update. After much consideration, we've decided to add the feature as a paid in-game content.
$9.95 to be able to use the feature for one week, and $14.95 to be able to use it for one full month! (that's almost $25 off!)

^i wonder how people would react if they actually did this.
disclaimer: if Ellation/Crunchyroll actually decides to implement this, it's purely coincidental.

this would be a sensible PR statement by a competent company. people would probably be sort of ok with not having the feature if they were actually honest with their customers. i mean, that would be far better than saying "lol you don't need this anyway, that's not censorship lol"
but i suppose at least they didn't go left and right and accuse people of being perverts.

Money is God. Somebody in power thought God would smile on them more with the censored version. It's just an attempt to net the widest audience without ruffling any feathers. Case closed.

Edit: It should be noted I don't think they made the right call, but its not some grand censorship conspiracy.

It's the LYING and Crunchyroll telling its members to piss off and play the Japanese version that has people mad. I'm glad this game is getting blasted.

there's a mile of difference between

>posting an official PV showing the game and the missing feature, and answering "no" to all inquires from people asking if the game would be censored, only for people to find out later that the game was indeed censored; and the PR team claim it's not censorship and saying "who cares" to all people upset about being lied to.

and
> "hey, we don't necessarily think this stuff should be removed, but we don't want the main stream media picking a tiny feature in our game and using it to vilify us, our fans, anime culture and the game industry in general"

if this was an attempt to not ruffle any feathers, they just set the feather on fire and said "nothing to see here folks. the feather is not on fire."
