Synopsis

What if you could enslave anyone you ever wanted? Well, this comes close. The SCM lets you enslave anyone who is also wearing an SCM, at a price. One must win over the other, at the cost of anything, in order for the other to become their slave.

The first episode is now up on HIDIVE: https://www.hidive.com/stream/doreiku-the-animation/s01e001

Episode 1

Meguro ought to have learned his lesson now that if something is too good to be true, it probably is. He violated Lucie, and now Lucie gets her revenge by using some creative wording to play him for a fool. With the SCM, they agree to a challenge to see who wins more pachinko balls, but Lucie didn't say anything about balls won earlier. This episode pretty much explains how the SCM works as a bet determines who is enslaved to whom, and the only way out is to get the slave to release it. Well, it's off to an interesting enough start, but given how I have been hearing not-so-good things about the source material, as well as the choice of studios to animate this, I'm not exactly getting my hopes up. Still, it offers plenty of intrigue, especially with how Eia is approaching this contest.

Oh boy, I got what I had expected from this. That infamous device is introduced very early and we got ourselves a dramatic thriller with characters' lives changing forever.

They didn't waste much time introducing the main cast. I have mixed thoughts on them so far but oh well, it's more about their role that I care about in the show. There's some suggestive scenes in this but it's tame compared to the manga. That yuri kiss though. There's also some psychology feel from the character interactions.

Pretty sure the story will get messy from here. This looks to be one of those popcorn entertainment shows with awkward writing and character interactions that won't be pleasing to watch.

So is this Kings Game-Mahou Shoujo Site level edgy?

Are the characters using these devices of their own free will? Seems like some Eyes Wide Shut play if they are.

I can stand some cringe worthy sex stuff as long as it is mostly consensual (S&M role-play type stuff). I would assume that if these people willingly wear the devices then they are mostly willing to do some kinky stuff.

I can't stand straight up rape (especially the "raped until she liked it" crap) and torture and murder and maiming.

This is going to be one of those shows where it will get worse before it gets better. Unfortunately when I read the manga, I couldn't get to the part where it gets better cause it's very dependent on character suffering especially for a girl who just wants revenge.

If you can't stand women being violated and beaten, watch out for this one.

Pleasantly surprised with the first episode, in all honesty. I found myself fearing this'd be another Magical Girl Site early on, but it's far more palatable than that... thing. The unpleasant scenes don't drag on so long as to be genuinely unwatchable. The writing leaves a fair bit to be desired and I can't say I care much for the main character(s?) thus far, but I'm sticking this out a little more.

If the "edgier" (for lack of a better term) slave treatment is handled in a similar manner to the rape scene in this episode then I'll be happy. Even if it ends up being a disgusting mess of a show that I'm embarrassed to have looked at (which, given what I'm hearing about the source material, seems likely).

Episode 1

The first episode gets down to business by letting the audience know of SCM a retainer that is used to enslave someone. In order for this to happen people must wear it and play a game. The winner becomes the master and can order the loser around. In the first episode we are introduced to four characters. The first is Eiya who meets Yuuga her friends ex boyfriend who claims he is gay and wants him to prove it. When he refuses to kiss his new BF in front of them Eiya kisses her friend to show that it's no big deal. Yuuga than proposes a game to figure out the relationship of a couple in the restaurant which Eiya does. We than see Lucie side as she and the guy she was with were the couple Eiya and Yuuga bet on.

We see that she wants revenge on the fat fuck she was with because he raped her and to get back at him wants him as a slave. In order to do this she tracks him down and plays a game with him. If he wins he gets to have sex with her one more time but if she wins she gets $1000. But before the game starts she gets him to wear the SCM. The rules are simple who ever wins the most pachinko balls in an hour wins and Lucie tricks him because she never said anything about balls that she won earlier. This was a dirty move but hey I'm with her and wanting her revenge she deserves it after what happened to her.

We than go back to Eiya and Yuuga and that she wants Eiya as a partner because he wants to go out and play games against people. He gives her money so that he can pay for his freedom if he ever loses and she agrees to it, but she will soon regret this.

The first episode did something right and that is get my full attention. So far from the four characters introduced today seeing Lucie get revenge was the best part of this episode. And after reading the manga her revenge is far from over as there were more guys that raped her that night. So now she's on a mission to get revenge on those guys. When it comes to Eiya and Yuuuga i thought for sure they were gonna have sex but was wrong about that. At least for now that is. Who knows she may become his slave and order her to do it? Good start better than KIng's Game.

Straight into it like others have said, telling us what SCM is right off the bat without holding back. Got dark real fast tho, she getting potentially raped or sexually assaulted? Dudes gonna just stuff something in their mouth randomly... so it seems like they have both have the device in their mouth for it too work. I don't know if I am going to like this show but i will continue and ill drop it if it gets any worst.

Quite an odd but interesting premise. Though I hope it doesn't feel like the characters are too simple to trick into putting on the SCM. If a stranger asked me to wear SCM, I don't think I would even think of putting it on; unless that stranger is my orthodontist (even then, he wouldn't be a stranger I guess), or I'm heavily intoxicated. I imagine it'd be easier to convince someone closer to you (like a best friend or family member).

The problem I have with stories like this is that I have to find some sort of connection with the characters or world to bother watching, otherwise it just becomes watching people do bad things for bad things sake. There has to be more going on, especially when the premise is so absurd, and I'm just not getting that here yet. It really does feel a lot like Maho Shoujo Site in that regard.

I do like that they've brought out the sexual content pretty much right at the start though. After reading the description of the show I was worried that it may just be left as some sort of ultimate bad end that would be trotted out when they need to drop the "big hammer."

Anyway, I'll give it another episode or two just to see if I end up caring about it but it's going to need to do better than it did in Ep1.

I like this so far. The premise is interesting and I appreciate that the rape scene was not played for titillation which always disgusts me. But I don't feel any real connection to the characters yet although I can empathize with Lucie's drive for revenge. Eia has the potential to be an interesting character so I'm hoping she gets some development soon. I can see this getting better or going downhill fast... guess I just have to keep watching to find out which!

I assume Netflix is just going to treat this as the "build up and dump after everyone stopped caring" category? Or did HiDive simply release it ahead of Netflix?

It's only on Netflix in Japan. Usually, it's also the case worldwide, but not this time as Sentai has the license, and all of their shows go on HIDIVE.

Episode 2

Another game is going on, and this time the SCM game is Rock, Paper, Scissors with Ayaka winning the right to enslave Seiya after tricking him. As such, the truth about what Seiya really though about Ayaka is revealed as he saw her as nothing more than a cash cow, while Ayaka made Seiya his. So Eia has her first duel, a tag-team game of Thumbs Up with Yuuga against Seiya and Ayaka. And in the end, Seiya played to lose by bailing out, and leaving Ayaka all alone and she lost. And in the end, Eia wasn't wearing a SCM. Damn, Ayaka is such a bitch and she needed to be taught a lesson. At least Seiya was only in this mess because he made a bad decision, but it just goes to show once again that if something is too good to be true, it probably is. Well, that was pretty cringeworthy to put up with, but it was good to see Seiya and Ayaka get the beatdown that they deserved.

Oh God, that SCM device is really screwing up people's lives...

Seiya is the biggest victim here after being involved with Ayaka but now, he can't even get back with Julia. The mind games continues! Honestly, I don't like Ayaka much at all. She's too childish and her personality feels like a brat who wants someone to play with.

So this week on Doreiku to Joshu, I got to see for the first time the phrase "eat me out" used in an anime.

I'm curious to see what some of the other games played will be. So far they seem fairly improvised, which could lead to some interesting ideas. The show's been giving me some Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 vibes in that regard.
