We got some new info on Calamity of the Zombie anime. The news was announced a long time ago but I wonder if we'll ever get a release date.

Anyone know if this is a full series? It didn't list as TV and first episode is apparently...almost 80 minutes long. I'm starting to think it's like an ONA but not in weekly format.

I was wondering where this thread was. Crunchyroll's search engine hasn't been working the way it's supposed to, but it just so happens that the Japanese title was used here. Anyway, this special is now up on Crunchyroll:

Since this is an anticipation thread and not a discussion thread, I'll share a few thoughts here using spoiler tags.

Overall, the movie was nothing too special, which I have come to expect out of the has-been studio that Gonzo is. I can't believe just how stupid the characters were acting, but that GEICO commercial lets everybody know that in a horror movie, people make stupid decisions.

So, is this like an edgy type show, like "Kings Game" or "Code Geass" or "Future Diary"?

I'm not sure if this was supposed to be a horror movie or not, but "calamity" definitely described it.

I wonder if we could get someone to change the thread title, because this doesn't deserve a dedicated discussion thread.

Somehow I got the feeling this was a test to see if an anime series would sell. I didn't hate it nor was I overly in love with it. It was merely "okay". Not being a fan of the horrible genre was the reason I didn't hate it. I agree that in a way it was Scoobydewish.

It seemed like everyone was on some sort of antidepressant that muted their emotions. I will agree with the one reviewer that Corpse Princess (Shikabane Hime) was a much better zombie show. You know, the two zombies were actually pretty nice girls, unless you tried to steal their life stones or sell them off

The production quality is certainly rough, but in a way it adds to the B Movie vibe. While the violence was absolutely savage, there's no way this is anything but a comedy. And it absolutely hits it out of the park. This is pure gold.

*Edit:
I'm not sure if this movie is supposed to be a parody of B movie schlock, but it embodies everything wonderful and terrible about it perfectly. Given how over the top and ridiculous the violence is there's no way this is intended to be taken as a serious horror flick. But as a comedy, this is brilliant.

That was so laughably bad, though for anyone who has seen a live action Japanese zombie movie it was pretty typical. Schlock pretty much describes it though I don't understand why they wouldn't be a little more ambitious with an animated movie considering live action is limited by low Special Effects budgets. The violence was surprisingly good but Kizumonogatari III set that bar pretty high as far as supernatural battles go. For a Gonzo show the animation was above average too, though how come Alma only got "Barbie" nipples and everyone else (including the groundskeeper) got real ones? And besides starting out mummified why were they mummies (mira) but in the title "Zombie" which is what they technically were (brain eating, and super strong, for some reason Japanese zombies are super strong and not rotted).

You know, there was a lot to complain about on this movie, but from the above comments, it appears that there was (is) a distinct possibility of a sequel in the form of a regular series. It seemed like the girls liked their original creator and there is (was) a distinct possibility of them acting in a more "normal" manner. In the closing scene we see them head towards town. One possibility for a series might be the trials and tribulations of a pair of zombies trying to live a normal life in town. Maybe they could have the zombie dog and cat as pets.

Pretty much what others said, it's so bad. I started to watch it as a "serious" horror anime, but once I paused and came back an hour or so later with the mindset that this is a black comedy, that puts it in a better light.

Who has this for the UK? Not seen it announced anywhere sadly enough but seems CR has it for a decent number of regions outside my own little island of course.
