U.A. is the #1 ranked High School for heroics and is considered as the top Hero Academy in the world. As such it as a pretty low acceptance rate. With plenty of other students who may have aspired to be in UA, it is surprising that Mineta Minoru was able to get in to UA.

His quirk seems pretty useless in battle. Additionally he was just above Midoriya in Aizawa's Quick Apprehension Test at 19th rank in the class. He has been shown to be a coward and was pretty scared when the villains attacked.

How was he able to defeat enough machines to pass the UA high entrance exam?

For storytelling purposes, sometimes it's necessary to have a comic relief character.

Who knows though, maybe he rescued someone like Deku.

Now that I think about it the rules of the Entrance Exam was to immobilize or render the villain-bots unable to function anymore, not necessarily destroy them. As such he could trap them against walls, or stick them to the ground, or even plug up their muzzles to earn points.

That's basically it. He just dropped a bunch of sticky balls on the ground as he went and the smaller robots just got stuck to them, which counted for his points.

You can't really underestimate Mineta. As goofy as his power and design are, the sticky grapes are actually pretty useful for a wide range of situations and since he can just grow them back instantly he always has a supply of traps to immobilize people with or to scale walls with or fix buildings or something. I mean, he did manage to basically solo Mt. Lady with just a piece of tape as backup and carried Sero to victory, lol.

yeah but course b has some really amazing people in it to guess he also got lucky with who he was paired with. In the initial qualifier that is.

Definitely because of his hair. If you swag a hair like that, you're bound to "make it".

You mean Midnight , not Mt Lady (although I'll take either) .

His quirk is actually kind of useful but he would probably be best as a sidekick but then again whoever picks him as a sidekick probably isnt the best hero

I actually disagree. I know it's a dumb meme to hate on Mineta because MHA is popular and when your series is popular SOMETHING has to be the target of people's frustration at its popularity to be the anti-bandwagon for it, but his design is very much just a 'hero's helper' look and his ability to restrain people is amazing for on-the-job work. I could legitimately see someone stronger and more competent having this goofy, smaller, character just around and having to help save them from traps or other situations on-the-job outside of the moments he's actually legitimately useful.

I agree it's in the realm of reason he could join a hero agency and get work. Probably not the next All Might, but it's not really his show anyway.
