Plot Summary

13-year old Rachel awakens to find herself trapped in the basement of an abandoned building. Without any memories, or even a clue as to where she could be, she wanders the building, lost and dizzy. In her search, she comes across a man covered in bandages. He introduces himself as Zack and he wields a grim-reaper like sickle.

A strange bond is struck between them, strengthened by strange, crazy promises…

These two, trapped in this strange building, don't know why fate has placed them there. But they will work together desperately to find a way out…

The first episode is now up. New episodes every Friday at 6am Pacific: http://www.crunchyroll.com/angels-of-death/episode-1-kill-me-please-774746

Episode 1

The last thing Rachel remembers is that she was admitted to the hospital, and then she finds herself in a strange place, and gets attacked by a reaper. She gets away and meets up with her doctor Danny, and it turns out that this guy is a mad scientists who is into collecting eyeballs. Just when Danny was about to gouge her eyes out, the reaper comes up to kill her, and Rachel comes to the realization that she should be dead. Well, this show certainly didn't show its hand at the beginning as I just don't know what exactly is going on.

Episode 1

Not going to lie, this was a bit creepy. However, I will say that the psychological aspect of the show works somewhat well so far.

Also, I can't stand that doctor. Does he have an eye fetish or something? Lol. Anyways, Rachel is a girl I want to learn about more. Also, the guy wielding the scythe is voiced by the same VA as Accelerator from the Index franchise. If you've heard of his voice before, it's easily recognizable.

Got some mixed feelings about the episode but we'll see what goes from here.

I kinda like that theme song at the end though.

This is one of those shows that I will watch from a cautiously optimistic point of view. The original game is a RPG maker game and I've heard many times that is very well written.

The first episode seems to be pushing towards the psychological aspects of the horror genre which is where anime horror thrives (At least I have honestly never seen a good horror anime that wasn't psychologically based).

I'll say it was a good first episode. It was certainly creepy from a psychological aspect and so far Rachel has been portrayed well and is pretty interesting (also her VA is perfect!)

However objectively, and coming from someone who is playing the game alongside the anime: unfortunately the pacing isn't great. The first floor was so quick that to be honest I was disappointed- especially when in the game, I personally think it's the scariest so far.
I think this is going to be a show that's going to be good- however suffers from weak pacing. Although of course this could change.

But the amination, soundtrack and VA's are really good so far- especially Rachel's and the Doctor's.

So other than the pacing it's a really good watch so far in my opinion! Certainly looking forward for more!

This was really kind of bad. It tries to be creepy, and ends up tedious. It tries to be thrilling, and ends up irritating. Girl wakes up in a murder maze, and is asked stupid questions about who she really is. Girl runs into a screaming idiot, and escapes without a huge amount of trouble. She even has enough time to sew together a dead bird. Girl runs into her therapist, who turns out to have mommy issues and, of course, wants the girl's eyes because they remind him of his mother who, of course, suicide in front of him and probably was the reason he lost an eye. Therapist dies because the simpleton slasher breaks the rules, and the girl remembers that her parents are dead and she is Batman.

Batman begs the Joker to kill her, and we all know he's going to botch the job.

I feel as if this is too much of a far speculation of a story that you have not seen yet. The story starts with lots of questions that make you wonder, which leaves a lot of contexts (that you mentioned) unanswered. Eventually you begin to grow with the story and see the answers unfold, as well as Rachel's backstory. I promise you that the anime, or story in general, is a lot more better than you'd think.

I think they went a little fast with the first and second floor...
Hopefully they'll take more time on the other floors.
I do like the ending theme though...

HEEEEEEEEEEERE'S ZACKY!

I just started playing this on my Switch. As I expected, there's a whole lot of laughing. The game has been pretty interesting so far; I'm curious to some of these scenes animated.

I have to agree that they sped through those first two floors ridiculously fast, but I guess they wanted to get to the "Kill me, please" line as soon as possible. We'll see how the rest plays out.

Not too sure what to think about this one. It's not necessarily off to a terrible start, but it's also very much so similar to a million other things that it feels like I've seen it before. Rachel seems interesting enough but Zack doesn't interest me at all. There's enough appeal to keep me around for at least a little longer but I was really hoping the first episode would grab me more than this did.

That ED song, though, is excellent. I can already tell that's one I'm going to want the full version of when it becomes available.

Yup, the start of this was meh, and that too was my initial reaction when I've watched the beginning of its rpg gameplay. I remember how it didn't caught my interest and I've made the assumption that it'll be just the usual psycho hunter vs prey. But as the story progresses, it pulled me in 'til the very end. Character development happened, and that is owed from good writing.

I'm not sure how this anime will handle the series overall, but as far as this episode goes, I see that they've breezed thru the levels. I'll give this a few more episodes, just to check if they'll handle the rest with care.

Rachel is a psychopath, I am calling it now. Did you see what she did to that dead bird? Cut off his head, cut it open, then sewed back up again all deformed looking. Sane people don't do that.......

Is this supposed to be reality or are we in the girl's head? I was getting a Matrix vibe from the things written on the wall and the reaper and doctor are too ridiculous to be taken seriously, plus the 'building" or whatever they are in just didn't have a layout based in reality, and who is announcing things over the loud speaker? I guess they are going for the "audience as confused as the main character" angle but if I am supposed to put myself in her place those are the questions I'd be asking, or also is this a dream?

It kind of bothers me how people expect so much from like one episode and don’t realize that it’s meant to set everything up and make you wonder what will happen. I ended up loving the story after I played the game.

I do feel like it felt kind of rushed though, but they probably wanted to end it where it did. I love Zack and can’t wait for everyone to see his true self in the next episode.

Yeah, I'm worried that things got rushed (especially since you could totally tell this story in 12 episodes without rushing it just fine.) but I guess they just really wanted to get that cliffhanger on the first episode in case people start complaining about it being too boring and typical for 2-3 episodes. So I'm hoping the pacing calms down by the second episode because everything else (art, animation, voice-acting, music) has been pretty good so far.

Honestly though, if you're completely new to the series, I'll give you all advice - if you're not onboard with Rachel and Zack's dynamic with each other by the time the second episode rolls by, I don't think you'll enjoy the show very much since they're the main focus. Not only that, but Zack is generally the one with the more interesting/amusing reactions to situations mostly because he's an absolute moron and it's great while Rachel now has less emotional capacity than a doorknob for majority of the story now that she has an unyielding death wish. Thanks Danny.
