Oh great, another psycho showed up.

She kinda reminds me of Stefano from The Evil Within 2. This episode even has the camera gimmick...

Yup, that's the premise of the show. There's a crazy psychopath on each floor, find a way to get past them all to escape the building. I haven't seen the newest episode yet, but we've ran into psycho maniacs three times now and I expect we're going to run into many more before the series ends. At LEAST four more, I'd imagine.

So each floor has a psycho, but I wonder if at the end, the anime will tell us how they ended up in this "building".

Episode 4:

Starting floor B3... I see all the budget went into animating Cathy and her floor, huh.

That's fair, her floor's probably the most expensive one out of them all. (Both in-game and for the animation studio) Plus her voice actor was really cute, my friends and I couldn't stop gushing over her. :'D (Either that or because we're just too used to the laugh tracks in the game that we honestly couldn't really care less if it sounds annoying or not. Who knows) I miss her theme song playing every time she shows up, but it's interesting to see the room where she's broadcasting. I wonder if it's the same room as the control room or another room altogether?

I'm sad that they had Zack fiddle with his nameplate instead of jumping up and down like a brat throwing a tantrum at the mugshot scene. But, I guess it probably looked too weird. I did enjoy Zack slamming the heck out of shutter button when he was taking Ray's mugshot though lol.

The electric chair part... well. The adaptation was solid for the most part, but I was kinda mad at how Zack didn't immediately get off the moment Rachel told him, as well as when the curtains came in. He's already established to be an Absolute Idiot, so I don't really care if he didn't know what an electric chair is. But dude's more than capable of at least stumbling out of the chair before the restraints came in during that timeframe. At least in the game, the restraints came instantly. It's just a nitpick at the grand scheme of things since everything else was honestly a pretty good adaptation from the game. But that small detail is as annoying to me as like how Ray drops the dang crowbar in Danny's floor instead of bashing his head with it.

Also I say this out of fondness, but I swear that Cathy doodle on the wall looks even shittier in the anime than it does in the game I prob need to play the game again to see lol

Now for the poison room... originally, the mask was attacked to a wall/vault thing so only one person at a time could explore the room while the other could avoid the poison. But I guess they just wanted to speed things up since only Ray figures things out while only Zack reaches high places and does any heavy lifting Ray asks him to do. It probably won't be very fun watching them solve the whole puzzle if they're completely faithful with it, but it looks like things are going exactly how it goes in the game. So it's a dilemma on which target audience to please; the newcomers or the fans of the game... Mostly because I've seen people get real Uppity about puzzles being brushed over aka, Persona 5, for example. Though, at least with Persona 5, there's more to the game than dungeon crawling. Angels of Death is a very linear game in comparison.

This show is definitely not going to be for everyone, it's pretty heavily flawed, the tone is kind-of all over the place because of these forced jokes, the motivations could be better, and the pacing is just not that good and fairly padded out.

But I really can't help but enjoy Cathy as an antagonist, lol. We know almost nothing about her, but this entire thing with her is just a lot of cheesy fun. She's just this prison warden turned TV star who hits a button to create her own pre-recorded crowd reactions purely for her own amusement, and that's kind-of great.

Also, this is probably the most obvious thing ever, but I'm going to guess Rachel killed the crap out of her parents and that's somehow why she's in this place.

I don't think there's much else to say here, really.... This show is pretty mediocre but I'm still enjoying it and I'm kind-of looking forward to more crazy Cathy antics. I'm kind-of skeptical if anything on the other floors can be this entertaining to me, though....

I just wanted to add another point since someone on twitter pointed it out but,
yeah watching the anime really emphasizes the point that you're NOT supposed
to relate to Ray despite the fact that she's the protagonist.

When I reached this part of the game, even though I was mostly exasperated at Zack
being a moron, I was genuinely worried about not being able to rescue him in time at
this point of the game. So as the player, I ended up projecting those worries onto Ray,
even if her reaction was similarly indifferent in the game.

Maybe it's because of the composition of this shot or the fact that Zack is screaming in
agony in the background that this scene in particular highlights how cold Ray is. She just
stone-cold does not give a shit if Zack is getting electrocuted to kingdom come right
before her eyes outside of "Well that's inconvenient for me."

It makes for a nicer contrast to how Zack is constantly making sure that she doesn't keel over
in the poison room in comparison. (Even if it's only because he doesn't want to be a liar.)

Honestly, I appreciate the anime for portraying things that could've been interpreted differently
in the game.

I'm solidly with the viewers who are enjoying this despite its numerous flaws. I thought the interaction between Zack and Rachel in this episode was quite funny. Also liked the Cathy animation. Anticipating Cathy's downfall since I deeply enjoy watching "sinners must be punished" types being brought low. Poor Zack though, life can't be easy for a wound-too-tight dumbass with no life skills besides slicing people up with a scythe!

Episode 5

And Rachel finds a way out using the gas to ignite dynamite and blow up the walls to get out. After that, they are now solving a math problem of sorts, but it turns out to be a puzzle to look for certain words as to what to do with the dolls in the dollhouse. It doesn't exactly help that Cathy is taunting Zack. So after falling for her taunts, the two get separated and each need to inject a mystery drug in which one of them is dangerous. Zack injects both into himself, and he goes insane, which Rachel doesn't mind because of the promise, but she would rather it happen after getting out of the dungeon. That Cathy is just sadistic to no end.

The more I think about it, the more I think Zack is starting to trust Rachel more.

This series is a damn mind game at this point between their own personal demons. A fitting title for episode 5 too considering what Zack said at the end.

I'm wondering what Cathy's true purpose is in the show. It felt like she treated the whole situation like a twisted game.

I get why people are frustrated with the anime but I personally think they've been expecting too much since ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ since when have anime adaptations of games ever been consistently Anime of the Year-worthy??

Episode 5:

Thank god they kept the scene where Zack just fucgkin tosses her without warning, the 'this bitch empty - YEET!!' jokes still live I guess the poison room solution didn't majorly change like I thought after all. I just thought that the duct that Zack throws her at was completely removed since I couldn't see it in the last episode but it apparently had to be opened first. So pretty much everything else about the poison room plays out the same- Zack trying to insert the card key at the wrong end and Rachel drawing from her middle school knowledge on creating a makeshift bomb, and all.

Though they really didn't hint about how they hide inside the vault locker until the literal last minute! It'd probably be really easy to miss it if you're not looking. ;; Also this is the best scene out of the entire episode and everyone can fight me on this.

Probably because we waited for like, a month, for Zack's backstory to kick in but gosh it sure felt like a longer wait than it was supposed to. Either way:

I guess I shouldn't have to add in the fact that Zack literally had to pick up table scraps and also rummage through the trash for something to eat huh I do hope they cover Zack's peculiarity of only slashing up happy people in the next episode since it kinda feels wrong just showing like, half of his backstory. But I guess people can probably tell what happened next from context clues, maybe. (A big maybe, since some people don't seem to get how much God means to Ray but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

The doll puzzle is honestly the first major deviation from the game I've seen because that was never there before. But I welcome its inclusion since it really drives home Zack's hatred of being thought of as a tool, and how Ray's passiveness pisses him off. Plus... it was way more entertaining to watch than watching the duo trying not to fall in a spike pit, odd as that sounds. But it made his anger a lot more understandable here with Cathy not subtly egging him on compared to how it just seemed like he was just 95% taking his anger out on Ray during the spike pit puzzle.

Because Ray was just doing her job and solving the puzzles either way, but it was a LOT more personal for Zack here.

And if the doll room demonstrates how Zack the thought of being used, the drug room makes it clear to Zack just how obviously one-sided their promise is since Ray benefits from it regardless if Zack lives or not. However, after Zack ends up taking both of the syringes, Ray actually shows some consideration of Zack's feelings and asks if he'd be okay with breaking the promise.

Honestly just glad they animated that hug, thank u. I'm pretty excited for the next episode now, it'll be great if they manage to pull it off well.

All in all, I personally thought it was a pretty good episode. The doll room was a nice change and I don't know why but I like this particular pose Cathy makes lol.

don't know what to think of this anime to be fair. I don't get where we are going.
