Synopsis

The year is 1991 and 6th grader Yaguchi Haruo only has video games to live for. He's not popular in school and he's neither handsome, funny, nice nor even friendly. The only thing he has going for him is that he is good at video games. One day at the local arcade, he plays Oono Akira, a fellow classmate but who's popular, smart, pretty and a rich girl that absolutely destroys him at Street Fighter II. Not only does he lose to her 30 times in a row, he can’t beat her at any game. Haruo can’t seem to shake Akira off as she follows him from arcade to arcade everyday after school and beats him every time. As weird as it sounds, the odd couple begins a strange bond and friendship.

Apparently Netflix has this show too so....

Idk, hopefully we'll get more info from them in the future but I'm not expecting a simulcast this season.

And with this being on Netflix, that means it's either waiting or the dark side. So at the very least, I plan to check it out on the dark side, and I'll probably wait until it shows up on Netflix after that. I know for sure it won't be simulcasting there as it was announced at AX that the US premiere is coming at Otakon.

well, its netflix we are talking about, this getting a simulcast is a no go. its more likely that we have to wait months after its done airing in japan....

Where do you get your Netflix information from? I usually depend on ANN for this kind of thing but they are doing a lousy job of it. I can't find any mention on their site of either this or Back Street Girls being with Netflix. It's realy irritating.

It's not officially confirmed, but it's likely to be the case because it's a Netflix show in Japan. And 99 out of 100 times, that means it's exclusive to Netflix worldwide as well. If it were not the case, somebody would have announced that they are streaming it already, but nobody has said anything pretty much all but confirming that it belongs to Netflix.

It says Netflix begins 7/22 but it's probably referring to the Japanese version.

Thanks guys. I wish ANN would make note of which shows are going to be on Netflix Japan, because I agree that is a pretty good indicator or an eventual Netflix release in other countries.

Even all the dark side streaming sites don't have this. Is it looking like months till we get to see it?

First episode was pretty fun, nice to see these older games and arcade cabinets. Nostalgic if you grew up with arcades (I can't relate sadly).

Only issue is that this series is pretty much all CG. It's doesn't look terrible, but it's kind of choppy and personally I'd rather see it 2d animated. Subs are going to be scarce, Netflix is Netflix with their dumbass policies in the states and it doesn't really look like any fan sub groups want to pick this up. Whenever there is subs, I'll give it a watch.

Aside from suffering a minor stroke from enduring the CGI animation this show was a nostalgic and cute blast from the past. I used to be one of those kids who hung out at the arcade monopolizing the Street Fighter 2 and Samurai Shodown cabinets so this brought back a load of memories.

*shrugs*

I sided with SNK over Square Enix. Might watch at a future date, but I have no immediate interest in this one.

SNK made some amazing arcade games. I've always wondered why Samurai Shodown didn't become the dominant fight game back in the day. I always felt it was superior to SF2.

Nice to see the attention to detail here, even down to the correct amount of points for getting a perfect in SF2. Not really sure how this one is going to last for a full season though. I really hope it doesn't go the route of Gamers and forget all about the actual games in an episode or two. I have to say that the games are basically what kept me interested for the first episode this time around, as there was nothing doing with the characters or that pretty poor looking CGI.
