I'm already paying subscriber of Crunchy and HIDIVE and so I won't increase my expenses by subscribing to Netflix too. So here's the question: is this anime worth to buy on DVD/BD alongside with Violet Evergarden?

There are 3 additional Eps that will be released with the Blu Ray as well. -

Merry Christmas to all!

I'm glad to hear the story will be getting a proper conclusion. Although this anime didn't make waves here in the west, despite being something quite special, it did do extremely well in Japan which is probably how we have the miracle of a 3 episode OVA.

you can blame netflix for that due to how they treat anime here in the west....

This series is adorable. I had to look past the annoying background nagging and insults.

To have an entire whole season where a main character doesn't say a single word and still hold your interest and attention. It's like trying to recreate Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on expert mode. This is well done, and for being a hybrid 3D animated everything looks beautiful.

I just finished watching this show, and I really enjoy the fact that it uses the actual products rather than some variant like in most other shows as this anime would not have been possible otherwise. And as such, it's pretty easy to see why Netflix has it costs a lot of money to get permission from Capcom, Sega, Sony, and others to get them as sponsors, and Netflix has that kind of cash to pay for all that unlike with Crunchyroll and the other usual suspects.

Anyway, this show certainly is a lot of fun, but I like how video games was used for character development, both positively and negatively as while games affected studies and all those other stuff, it also gave Haruo a reason to live, as well as develop friendships that would not have otherwise been possible seeing that Akira had been turtling much like Guile when Haruo plays, and games allowed her to enjoy something she really likes. Unfortunately, there are some parents that are just way too forceful, and Akira's parents see her only as the next CEO of the company, and not as Akira Ono. The show ended with a cliffhanger, which would have soured me had I now known that there was an OVA series coming out. Watching this sure made me want to play those retro games, but I have too much other stuff I would rather play.

Omg I was watching my netflix suggestions and this appeared, and I thought:

"Ah, another generic game related anime and with 3D animation, ugh... Well, lets watch one episode"

Dear god, it hit me so hard on the nostalgia that I couldn't help it and binged the whole season till 5 am, lol.

Not to mention the characters, doing the math, they're just one year younger than me. Aside the TurboGrafx 16 and NeoGeo consoles (I played all NeoGeo arcades, tho) there were right in my generation... Alas, I played 90% of those games with the same passion Haruo played. Indeed, it was a wild nostalgia ride with an adorable RomCom.

But that aside, the show was extremely fun and were right on my timeline with my history with video games, so I cannot wait for the OVA's and maybe (?) another season.

9/10 in my book.

P.S. GDI that cliffhanger... xD

Watched it and agree with many of the sentiments here. Was a really nice story. Been telling people at work to watch it as they have netflix subs. trying to bring them on board to anime!

That's too bad. Sad in fact. it's like a bloke at work who refuses to watch the new Dr Who series because there a female Who.

I really liked it and wish the 3 OVA's came out a bit sooner than March tbh.

Only niggles were how they ended the season (which may be sorted by the OVA's) and some issues with the language in the dub.

I don't know if it's just an artifact of translation or if the original japanese uses too modern words but some terms were used a decade or two before the time it's supposed to be set in from my recollection.

An example would be when Harua mused about his future and considered becoming a pro gamer.

I don't think this was a thing even in japan in the early 90's - you couldn't generate enough cash to live as such so not really an option.

I also don't think the phrase pro gamer was being applied to computer gaming until into the new millennium.

Since this is on another platform. I will put my questions in the spoiler tag.

Just a note, there maybe a second season. On another forum, one comment said there will be. You can't go by just one comment.
