Plot Summary

The city state of Lisvalletta. Two suns rise above this city, and the people here live peaceful lives, but in the shadows crime and illegal drugs run rampant. Among them is the dangerous, highly lethal drug "Anthem" which casts a dark shadow over the city. The SEVEN-O Special Crime Investigation Unit specializes in cracking down on Anthem. This unit operates in two man "buddy" teams in what's called the "Double Decker System" to tackle the problem. Doug Billingham is a seasoned investigator, and joining him is Kirill Vrubel, whose abilities are mysterious and unknown.

It's a spin-off of Tiger & Bunny.

Update: While a previous version of this article stated that the anime is a "spinoff" of Tiger & Bunny, the announcement of the anime did not specifically state that the anime is a spinoff, nor did it state if it takes place in the same universe. The announcement uses the phrase "original anime series," and so we have removed mention of it being a spinoff series.

Yes, so, confusing.... No matter, close enough for now. Thanks, anyways. We figure it out, np.

It's from the crew that made Tiger & Bunny, but not a spin-off. Wasn't that later clarified in an article? (can't seem to locate it)

Story synopsis:
The city-state Risvaletta. In the shadow of this city with two suns where people go about their tranquil everyday lives, crimes and illegal drugs run rampant. Above all, a dangerous, highly-fatal drug named "Anthem" is casting a dark shadow on the streets. The "Seven-O" special criminal investigation unit, whose speciality is to supervise the investigation of Anthem, institutes a "Double Decker System" policy of forming groups of two investigators.
Doug Billingham is a veteran investigator. And now arriving at his side is Kirill Vrubel, whose true ability as an investigator is unknown. An aloof veteran detective who is hard to get a read on, and a rookie detective who is too eager and often takes actions in vain. The story of this unconventional detective duo starts now.

Episode 1

It started off with a more serious vibe compared to the original Tiger & Bunny series. We also got a guy named Doug who holds the Sergeant Rank. The episode introduced the setting and idea of dealing with dangerous criminals.

There are detectives, cops, etc. I think for most parts, the show maintains a feel of the anime I was expecting.

I remember watching Tiger & Bunny many years and enjoyed that so hoping it will be just as enjoyable.

That certainly came out of nowhere as a premiere date hasn't even been announced. Crunchyroll must have had some special deal in place so that they could stream this on the same day they did the premiere at Crunchyroll Expo.

Pretty solid debut. It feels like it's largely cribbing from a bunch of other things but it's doing them all well enough to be enjoyable. Most of the humour felt at least mostly on point, and the post-credits scene was hilarious. Had no idea about this one going in, but I'm definitely interested in seeing more. Can't wait to see all of the complaints about the censorship though.

Episode 1

The similarites to Tiger and Bunny are prominent there, and it even has Agnes in it, albeit not the same person as the commentator. So it starts off with how Doug and Kirill came to be a partner, and Kirill has some sort of aura where he's always in the right position to thwart a crime. Whether it be coincidence or not, that is something Doug could certainly use for his partner. Quite an elaborate scheme that was to use him to strip down and catch the criminals off-guard. While I don't expect this to top Tiger and Bunny, it's a very enjoyable way to begin this.

That's nice of Crunchyroll to broadcast this episode four weeks ahead of time. Episode 2 is also screening at Crunchyroll Expo, so there's a chance it will also stream here ahead of time, but I'm not expecting it. The series begins its TV broadcast on Sept. 30, four weeks from today.

Loved Tiger & Bunny, absolutely obsessed with this so far. I have been looking forward to it, not expecting much, and it was funny with a really fun/funky style to it. Already a new favourite and can't wait for episode 2.

Better than it seemed at first. Kind of cheesy, but Doug has good screen presence.
