The current version of the player is so CPU heavy I can only use Crunchyroll at 1080p on my gaming desktop computer. The Chromebook I like to use with Crunchyroll is barely capable of playing at 720p currently. The previous version of the player (first version of the HTML5 player) worked fine on the said Chromecast at 1080p If you are adding more encryption to protect the videos it isn't working because the videos are still getting stolen by pirates. And the people who are actually paying are getting problems instead of being served properly.

Hidive works fine and CPU load never stays high enough to cause frames to skip.

CR player overwhelms both processor cores and causes the playback to stutter.

I tried that same episode and the peak never reached 100% (it was around 80%), and it spent about half the time below 40%.

This is on a system running Windows 10 (64-bit) with 16 GB of RAM but only a Pentium G3258 CPU.

Based on what your screen shot is showing, I'm guessing you are running Windows 7 (32-bit?) on a system with 4 GB of RAM. What is your CPU?

Exact same experience here. Just started a few days ago. What is going on?

Do people with slow computers still watch videos on Crunchyroll? After this new player came, my laptop struggles to play videos.
Crunchyroll now pushes my cpu to almost constant 100%, while other like HiDive uses no more than 30-40%.
Was just watching an episode of Ahiro no sora, that was stuttering (slidshow like) almost constantly and almost not worth watching.
It's usuall not that bad, but no videos has played without some stuttering after this player was rolled out.

Hope there is an update/fix coming soon.

The computer I used for this test (I picked the oldest functional computer I have around to prove the point that the video player is processor heavy).

This is a HP Pavilion 2112 (2.10Ghz Mobile Athlon II dual core, 4GB DDR2 RAM, Mobility Radeon HD4200, Windows 7 32bit)

Hidive works perfectly with the DV4...

I am not annoyed it doesn't work on the DV4 but I am EXTREMELY annoyed that the Chromebook is no longer working properly on 1080p. The Chromebook is a lot more powerful than the DV4 as it can play 720p in the current player state.

The DV4 can't even play 480p videos with the current player. Crunchy is unusable on the DV4.

I should also mention that while the Chromebook is x86 based(intel) too, it's OS is x86 Android.

I am having more trouble playing videos on my laptop than ever before! Nothing I try seems to work. It is so incredibly frustrating to keep having the same problems over and over again - but only on Crunchyroll (I can stream from other sites just fine.). This is seriously making me not want to subscribe anymore. I can spend that money on books.

"There is a 50% chance the page will load with the old player. If it does not, simply repeat this process until the desired player is loaded."

Yes, it is--especially now that (a year later) the old player is no longer available at all so there is a 0% chance the page will load with the old player.

Seems to be working better, watching One Piece and haven't had to refresh the page if I want to go backwards. Spoke too soon. It does seem less choppy though.

I'm getting dropped frames with the latest update. I suspect that the player isn't respecting lower playback settings, and is trying to grab higher resolution frames. The processor load is galloping from %60 to %98, if anything is running in another tab playback will repeatedly freeze for a bit. This is especially noticeable on fast action scenes. So far the only solution is to close everything else. This computer is a dual core sandy bridge Win7 laptop on a fast connection with FF. It usually works OK streaming video from other places, even with stuff in other tabs running.

Similar things are happening to me-I usually watch(ed) on my laptop, which is a fairly basic Dell laptop about 3 years old. I don't have the best internet, but I could play videos here just fine.

The new player takes an hour to watch a 20-odd minute episode; and I as only able to watch on my PS4 as long as nothing else was tapping into my wi-fi. Now even that is barely working.

So, yeah, I am still having the problem on Firefox where the commercial will show up, but after that the episode won't load. It doesn't happen to every video, notably, but it still happens to certain videos consistently. On Google Chrome, I experience no issues. Fix this please.
