Another browser....all i use is IE, it comes installed so why would i download chrome, firefox, or any other browser to watch crunchy?


Because IE is not supported by Microsoft anymore. No one should ever use IE in 2018. Microsoft have their new browser name Edge. ITs better in everyway.

It makes me nostalgic to see someone try to defend sticking with IE, like I did just to be the contrary one, back when Mozilla / Opera / Phoenix were hot in the early 2000's... Except in this case there's even more reason to drop it, as you said.

thank you, this was all I needed to know. If crunchyroll knows this then maybe they will make an option to choose your player so us with IE don't get left behind

Flash (which the old player uses) will be killed by Adobe in 2020. Look, man, even I am on Windows 7 (are you?), but if CR support were to tell you "You can either switch to a decent browser or you can unsubscribe," I wouldn't blame them. You reap what you sow by using IE.

The real filth was when they were causing Windows 10 to automatically install without the user's permission, which I installed a user-made program to prevent. This is just silly as far as obvious advantages to MS, since I can use HTML5 in Windows 7 just fine in Chrome and Firefox. It's an incentive to switch to those rather than Windows 10.

Apparently it is possible to browse with Edge in Windows 7 if you're willing to go through this: https://www.ghacks.net/2017/04/14/how-to-install-microsoft-edge-on-windows-7/ I don't know if doing it that way will work with HTML5 video, I guess it should?

This is complete speculation on my part, but a couple of these strange lack of features in the html5 player overlap the android app issues cr has refused to fix for at least over 2 years: can't turn off subs, no video quality options. We know the android app they used relies on third-party code, since cr released a version of the app which threw an error by launching the default browser to an outside site. Makes me wonder if they are using some of that code base when creating the html5 player, since there's probably plenty of overlap between webview (web like page access in android apps) and chrome.

All browsers have different levels of html5 compliance. This isn't really a true html5 player. This is a "you need the latest, greatest browser" player.

There are lesser known browsers that are largely html5 compliant that cannot run the player. I've also got old, unsupported browsers with flash disabled that are enough html5 compliant for some to run Prime and youtube but none currently can load cr's "html5" player.

On a separate note, I think it's a d??? move to pull this mandatory player switch stunt in the last 2 weeks of the season. With many series coming to a close now, it seems really inconsiderate to absolutely change the player and prevent people with older devices or browsers from completing their shows. I think it's unfair for customers to have viewed 10-11 episodes or more of a season only to be shafted during the finales.. Many people pay for memberships here, and they are losing time and energy dealing with this crap because of cr's lack of planning and cr wanting to put out beta level software so you can be like google and landfill a bunch of devices way ahead of their time.

This, to me, is just another example of the decline at cr. I could look past what errors they made in the past as they seemed to have decent intentions for anime or the viewer. But the past 2 years has seen a whole site hack and barely any notice, lack of app fixes while they implemented an in app store instead, completely wrong and missing subtitles that aren't proofread or sections skipped that are never fixed despite people bringing attention to them, the past 3 seasons at least the cr main page has never had a full simulcast listing of the ongoing season, and, of course, the TLS 1.2 changeover and now this html5/flash player switch. Oh, and the comments section never being fixed for ages now.

I'm not sure the reasons for this decline, whether it's new teams, management, ownership/partnerships, or what. Just to me, this past month exemplifies the issues. I will have spent more time without access to videos than access and will lose near 3/4 of the current billing cycle. It's only like $8 month but there's been more headache and frustration than enjoyment of anime on this site for me. I'm here to watch anime, not sending emails to support in hopes you fix your broken software/site/policies.

It would appear that with VRV being mostly finished (I've noticed several playback-related improvements to the Android app over the last few months), work on CR has resumed to some extent, but of course still nowhere near the level one should expect from such a successful company, just as you described. I get the impression that management remains chaotic. Someone pointed out that they appear to have a lot of vacant job openings. http://www.ellation.com/jobs/ I don't know if all of those are actually open right now or not.

The rushed rollout of the HTML5 player was a reaction to a flood of comments (and some subscription cancellations) following a certain other announcement, the show-which-must-not-be-named. /anime-news/2018/08/24-1/cr-originals-and-the-html5-player

I don't know if I'm replying in a way that will let you know that I am replying to you but I think I have a solution to your problem.
The reason crunchyroll isn't working for you in Chrome on XP anymore is actually because most mainstream browsers like Chrome and Firefox have all dropped support for XP and didn't implement HTML5 video it would seem before dropping support.
However I just tried this out in my XP virtual machine and it seems that the Maxthon internet browser can still render crunchyroll videos on windows XP.
So you might want to install the Maxthon internet browser and see if that solves your issues.

No offense man, but its time to upgrade. In no way whatsoever should you be using XP. That OS is full of security holes now.

Mac user here, using Chrome. I am still experiencing an issue with #3. Anyone else having this problem as well? Really annoying how I can still see the mouse. Other than that, the new player works fine, All the buffering and random freezing has disappeared... for the most part. I encountered it while watching Angels of Death. Just reloaded the page and then it ran smoothly again.
