This is my first post on the forums! Hello!

I'm very curious to know some scenes from your favorite manga (or one you're currently keeping up with) that you were surprised to see changed in it's anime adaptation. This can be anything from plot changes, anime-exclusive character introductions, changes in setting or even dialogue. I've very interested in some huge changes that you've seen!

(they don't even need to be HUGE. They can be just a normal thing being changed with little reason that may have been confusing!)

For me, I think I'd have to go with in the manga, Magi,
after the Zagan arc
. In the anime, they changed it
. I thought the change was truthfully very silly and almost pointless? I wasn't sure what reason the anime had to change how that scene played out.

That's just my own personal example! Clearly mine wasn't story or plot breakingly terrible, but simply something that I was just confused about!

I'm looking forward to seeing if anyone else has some gripes regarding changes made when a manga was adapted into an anime! I'd also love to know why this change came as a shock, or what your opinion of the change was! Did you like it, and think it helped with the story or character(s) involved? Or, did you dislike it, and think the change served no purpose? I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say!

Hmm. I'd have to say the only change I can think of that I truly hate is how the ending to Deathnote was changed in the anime. Instead of Light begging for his life at Ryuk's feet and feeling the same fear that the entire world felt during his reign as Kira, as well as a look at the world post-Kira, we instead get Light running away, the cops letting him go even though they don't know if Ryuk is going to kill him or not, and then nothing. Light dies, and that's it.
The entire change felt pointless as there was literally no reason for it. They had the material, so why change the ending to something completely different?

As for an ending change that I enjoyed? That would have to go to The Royal Tutor. Currently the manga is still ongoing, meaning that the anime had to go for an original ending. But the ending to the anime, along with the added past of Victor and Heine, was some of the best stuff I have seen in an anime. It didn't feel like something made up. It felt like a natural progression of the story, and I can't wait to see where the sequel film will go from here. And if there is ever a second season, I hope they introduce the character Beatrice. She is a character that never made it into the show, sadly, and her interactions with the princes and Heine were some of my favorite parts.

Personally, I think the biggest change I've found so far is the anime ending of Akame ga Kill! (I know I already put a spoiler tag up but just a warning that this is a huge spoiler...)
I know that the reason for the major change in the anime was because the manga wasn't completed, and I actually like both endings contrary to almost everyone I've heard from hating the anime's ending. So for me, this change wasn't really an issue... more like it didn't sit well with me since it seemed as if the creator wanted to test out his original ending in the anime and see what the audience thought and then base the manga's ending on that. There are so many people who are anime-only that I'm sure that at least a few left the show with a bad taste in their mouth.

So, while I don't mind either endings since I think both fit the dark theme of the manga, it just seemed sad to me that some people will remember Akame ga Kill! as simply an anime with a terrible ending..

An anime that I recently watched is pretty popular- it's called Love, Chunibyou and other Delusions. I fell in love with it quickly and naturally wanted to read the light novel. But... when I searched it up I was really disappointed to find that the anime is literally like a fanfiction of the original (meaning the original was really bad.) The light novel has only around a third of the characters in the anime and its really hard to imagine the series without all of those characters. Apparently the reason for this was because the ln had too few characters for its adaptation. This is obviously a good change, I was just disappointed to find out that the source material wasn't too great

Fuuka. In the manga, which I haven't read yet,
It was a really big deal, all over the news, when the anime came out and they changed that purposely to make a different version.

I think Battle Angel counts; the OVA series diverges quite notably from the manga version.

Full Metal Alchemist is another example; just an entire divergence from the manga with that one but it turned out pretty damn well.

Without a doubt Fuuka was the big bomb that got dropped in the manga, and then in the anime.

This may or may not count seeing as its a eng vs Jap/manga thing, but the fact that the Shadow Realm doesn't exist in Japan's Yu-Gi-Oh.

Hm... although it's not really important plot-wise, I liked the change in the Fairy Tail Tartaros Arc where Tempester isn't defeated by Gray but fights against Laxus.
I'm a great fan of Laxus which might be a reason for me liking this change, but I really enjoyed the fight.

Biggest changes? Have you seen Excel Saga? They intentionally went off the rails from the beginning on that one.

There are a lot of shows that diverged quite a bit from the manga. Trigun and s-CRY-ed both had significantly different versions than the manga, and they were better than the manga in my opinion.

I think I was most disappointed by the changes at the end of the Claymore anime. The last four episodes did not happen in the manga, ruined the chances of a sequel with the changes, and were not very good.

The first anime season of Blood Blockade Battlefront added in a subplot about the characters White and Black that don't exist in the manga. I like the second season more since it follows the episodic style of the manga more (though I think the atmosphere of the first season with the soundtrack was great).

The manga and anime of Fruits Basket diverged a bit around the character Akito.
