Plot Summary

The protagonist, Masaru, has just inherited a big fortune after the death of his father. However, people are trying to get their hands on it by any means necessary, even if it means killing him. Narumi helps Masaru from being kidnapped after fighting strange figures. He finds out that they're not humans, but wooden puppets with amazing strength. After a hard fight, Narumi is forced to admit that he's no opponent for them; and just when he starts to think that Masaru will be captured, Shirogane, Masaru's watcher arrives from France with a weapon, the puppet Arlequin. Here begins the story of Karakuri Circus.

That, and it's three cours long. Not to mention, it has to have a big budget with Amazon paying the animators handsomely for the streaming rights.

I did not know that. That does make it seem promising.

The first episode airs in like 13 hours (did time zone conversion in my head so I might be off an hour or two). This is one of the shows Amazon Prime gets episode 1 24 hours early for in Japan and those never get uploaded early outside Japan so check back some point tomorrow.

Definitely one of the better premieres imo for the season.

It captured the mood of the show well in terms of presentation. The character designs similarity to Ushio to Tora is also noticable considering it's by the same creator. This show has some unusual humor that I think works overall. There's emotional moments too already from the first episode.

Then, there's Masaru and Narumi, two prominent characters that we get to know. I wonder how much background story will be focused this season though as it's fairly important. But I think the first episode is quite promising. The theme songs are also great. Bump of Chicken delivers again.

The art style looks kind of like JoJo's Bizzarre adventure.

Is there a decent analog to this series? JoJo, Deadman Wonderland, Hellsing, FMA, something else?

The first episode is now up on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JVJ1W65/

Episode 1

This show doesn't waste any time getting down to business. Some setup could have been had, but it's more important to let viewers know what to expect in this show moving forward, and then properly set things up. So here, Masaru is on the run as he has inherited a huge fortune from his father, who died in an accident caused by puppets, and and somebody is after the inheritance. To protect him, Narumi, who was wearing that bear costume at the beginning, and Shirogane, who learned under Masaru's grandfather, help protect him. Pretty thrilling episode that was as it goes to show that Masaru is being mercilessly targeted, but there's no clue as to who the puppetmaster behind all this is.

That dude's disease is weird (thought it was a circus curse), but a decent start, and quietly hoping for good things, given how I enjoyed Ushio & Tora.

I find it amusing that Shirogane is voiced by the same VA who did Hakumen

These [email protected]§!ing puppets appearing out of nowhere scared the shit out of me .
I'm completely aware that it actually wasn't that scary but for some reason these scenes freaked me out (which isn't a bad thing).
Overall it was a pretty good episode. The dialogues could've been better but it looks great, the soundtrack is good and I like the characters.
