Episode 20

The rest of the backstory is explained as Sadayoshi's "death" was no accident. Just as Sadayoshi was implanting his soul into Masaru, Shoji came in and took him down with him in that acidic poll, but Shoji somehow survived all that, all while Sadayoshi transferred his soul into an artificial body where it is revealed that he is also Bai Jin. Then he kills Shoji for good and kidnaps Shirogane. Last week, Sadayoshi was established as the reason why this is all happening, and now he has showed up doing his damage, all while it turns out that only a small portion of his soul was transferred into Masaru, which explains why Masaru is still Masaru despite being told otherwise. Now that the backstory is out of the way that things should be picking up again as it has been quite some time since Masaru, Narumi, and Shirogane were all together fighting off bad guys who came seemingly out of nowhere, and now Masaru knows why.

This was probably the longest background story arcs this Winter season. Regardless, it was all important to establish the motives of the characters in particular Sadayoshi.

I kinda wish they condensed some of that though as some episodes felt much longer than it should have.

Oh well. Masaru looked pretty determined with a newfound confidence at the end there.

Episode 21

Now that Masaru understands his situation, the objective is clear, and that is to stop Faceless, who is actually his no-good father Sadayoshi. He strikes by creating those silver goddesses to infect the world with Zonapha, and only those who were in contact with Eleonore are immune to its effects. And after a long absence, Narumi is back, and now the institution is under attack with Mingxia protecting Tom from Jones and his army of puppets. Things are finally moving forward again after the long backstory, and things are pretty intense now.

Episode 22

Mingxia is gambling against Jones, and she's got no luck at all as she keeps on losing all those bets forcing her to wear that ridiculous circus outfit, all while Eleonore is being turned into Francine. But with one last bet, Mingxia took luck out of the equation with this rigged bet and delivered a suckerpunch. And then George shows off his piano skills to calm those children down. And then George and Ashihana face off against one of the Faceless Commander's generals. Pretty chaotic things have gotten as Faceless sure is ruthless and has a large army to boot. Mingxia knew better than to leave it up to luck, but she really didn't have much of a choice at that.

Episode 23

Ashihana is fighting Pantalone, and he's getting overwhelmed. Just when it looked like he had found an opening, he gets impaled by his own sword. That's when he realizes that his blood, fused with the Aqua Vitae after sucking George's blood, is poisonous to automata, so he just needed to get his blood-stained sword to impale him, and he does that after a surprise hug. Meanwhile, George beats his enemy after a tough battle. While those two did win their battles, they took quite a lot of damage themselves George is dead, and Ashihana is about to kick the bucket, all while Barnhart sacrificed himself to save the kids. Pretty intense battles going on.

Episode 24

And now the fight is Narumi vs. Drill September, and in the same room Mingxia vs. Blom Blom Low. While Narumi made quick work of the drill guy, the trapeze assassin took out Mingxia. Narumi also had a tough time, but using those enhancements, he got the extra power needed to beat him. While that's happening, Guy is battling a ton of small fries, all while Pantalone is still alive and has a change of heart after getting beaten by Ashihana. So after all that, everybody escapes on the Clown Express. Everybody just looks miserable and beat up there after that fight, but in the end everybody still standing managed to escape after a thrilling escape. Now that the battle at the hospital is over, it's onto Masaru as he confronts Faceless to beat try and beat his dad senseless.

This show constantly reminds me how violent it can get when it needs to be.

The Clown Express moment was epic though. I really loved the timing of that scene when it came just at the right time. Excited to see what Masaru will do next. This is another chance for the boy to prove himself.

For the final cour, a new opening theme song while the third ending is the first opening with different footage.

Episode 25

So after Narumi and company escaped, the story shifts back to Masaru as he arrived at the mansion to take on Faceless. And to get to him, he has to battle his way through a bunch of his soldiers that have gotten a body upgrade led by Naya. After Naya attacks that loli automata Columbine, she decides to join Masaru and helps him escape, all while Lise is helped out by a lute-playing automata, Arlequino. So here, there's a rift developing between Francine and Faceless seeing that Francine wants to save humans, all while Faceless wants Masaru's body and will do anything to get it. Then that ending there, some huge truth is about to be revealed about where all those automata come from as it's going to be ugly to say the least.

Is it Diamantina or Columbine? The original cast announced it by that name.

Ok, that was a bit of a strange episode. I think she grew fond of Masaru in her own weird way. Masaru also denied having feelings for Shirogane.

Episode 26

That was quite an emotional episode there as those automata are actually elderly people who have a soul double in those mechanical bodies. They ended up working for Faceless because they were granted eternal life (well, not exactly as they still age, just much slower). And these automata end up killing themselves. While that's going on, Lise absolutely demolishes Lao going to show how much of a fraud he is as a beast tamer. For Naya and those poor souls, it was for the best that they finally pass on as their eternal life was nothing but miserable. In the meantime, it looks like what Colombine did is part of some bigger scheme that Faceless has cooked up, and it will be interesting to see what that's about.
