Considering how insular Sony is lately, I can only see Funimation crashing and burning because of this.

And with that, anime is losing its niche status thanks to the increasing influence of megacorporations. There's Sony's creation of Aniplex leading to a bunch of overpriced home video releases. Then there's Amazon and Netflix throwing a ton of cash to take selected shows for their own to get people to subscribe to their services. And then there's Crunchyroll that started off small before being bought up by the Chernin Group (which Hulu is part of), and with their parent company being bought out by AT&T now they are also subjected to the ways of megacorporations. With the Chrenin Group buying them up meant the end of those cheap subscriptions that were available during Black Friday, and AT&T's presence triggered this breakup. There's also Warner taking Viz and controlling the way they do business. And now this with Sony buying up Funimation and telling everybody that they are too good for Crunchyroll and that they will rule the anime industry by going solo rather than to remain partners in crime. Funimation is none too pleased about this decision as it was Sony who ordered this dissolution and Funi has always been about catering to the community.

So what's next? Only Sentai, Discotek, and Right Stuf remain under no influence by megacorporations, and Sentai previously got involved with their partnership with Amazon that only lasted nine months. I can see Sentai being bought up by Amazon given their past working relationship. Anyway, just sad that this is happening, but it seemed too good to last and because Sony and AT&T have more saying power than Funimation and Crunchyroll that it came to this.

If Warner Bros. owns Viz could we see their titles that aren’t currently on Crunchyroll come over since they are now both owned by Warner Media?

What does it mean in a more concrete way? Does it mean that all subtitled content of show from Funimation will be removed from here? If so, this will impact what I'm watching here, to be honest.

EDIT: I also hope that CR will make a list of which series that it will affect.

Thanks for the link. Now I have to binge 14 episodes LastExile: Silver Wing and 12 episodes of Outlawstar this weekend.

I have a feeling this is going to screw up a lot of the home media that has been delayed and thus basically pulled from pre-order

Fuuka...Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy, RE: Zero Part 2

not to mention that Funimations FAQ about already released home media licensed by Crunchyroll only said "subject to inventory availability"

Sounds to me that they won't be printing any more Home Media for shows that were acquired by Crunchyroll before the partnership in September 2016

Still waiting on my MMO Junkie preorder so think it's one of them caught up. Didn't have any issue with World End and Tanya ones from the month prior as they shipped maybe a week later but on MMO it's status keeps bouncing around.

It should have already released, that's probably just a problem with who you ordered it from.

Ordered it direct from CR store the day it went up for preorder on july 18th. In my above example for the 2 releases prior they were also from CR direct when their preorders went up and they were in my hand a week after release. Amazon and Rightstuff list it as instock but now it doesn't even show up here on CR's store so who knows.

I ordered mine the same way & it actually arrived Monday (10/15)

We'll have about 10 shows left here in the UK.
I better read up on what is licenced by Funi and move them up my watchlist.

First Drama fever closed and now this. How does this affect VRV? I always figured it was the CR and Funi partnership that was mostly responsible for VRV.

As Assassinx89 said, Funimation + Crunchyroll was the only reason I was even paying for VRV.

Hidive's anime choices look pretty subpar to me, so I might just cancel my VRV membership.
I'll probably just buy a year of Crunchyroll (if they still let you buy a year at a time)

If cr loses to many of the shows that I enjoy I'll cancel premium and just put up with the ads.

We really need a list of what titles are going to be impacted by this. Like soon if at all possible. Not 1 to 3 days prior to the end like what usually happens when licenses for shows end on Crunchy. That doesn't even come close to giving us the time we need to catch up, and I imagine the Funimation list of affected will be longer than usual this time around. I like the content on here same as most, but many of us have jobs and can't watch anime 20 hours a day to try and catch up on titles when the licenses suddenly end.

*looks at massive backlog in queue*
*cross-references the shows that have Funi listed as publisher*
Oh boy...
Time to go into triage binge mode.

Now the question is, do I watch a couple of shorter shows or tackle the behemoth that is Yu Yu Hakusho?

The cool thing is, it kinda is exciting to make such decisions, right? I mean, I kinda like having to make tough decisions like this in my somewhat simple, easy life. No joke lol.

I've decided to binge Psycho-Pass and Hellsing, but not rushing it. At least not until I see the finalized list of what's staying.

This list does not have:
Aria
Free!
NEW GAME!
Natsume Yuujinchou
Tanaka-kun is Always Listless

What a relief

So much of that list is US/CAN only - no loss to the rest of us really. VRV? Guess what? Also US/CAN only. I'm not subbing to Funi again, I also doubt they'll be a big player in the simulcast market again - I've seen how bad Animax flopped, just like Amazon Strike I don't see this fairing well for Funi but it was hardly a surprise.

This is rather grim and sudden, I wonder which titles will be affected and hope a list will be published soon.

I can't help thinking that it was rather straightforward before with CR being the place to watch subs, and Funimation for dubs. I know in Australia there's Animelab, which works as the middle ground (with amazon and netflix for exclusive titles) but I really don't have a good feeling about the end of the CR x Funimation partnership. Also, there's so many legal streaming services around and frankly its getting incredibly confusing about which to subscribe to.
