Actually AT&T just finished buying out Time Warner last June. SONY had nothing against AT&T until that happened.

It's Time Warner becoming part of AT&T that is the root of the issue as now SONY sees it as a competitor.

Ive been on Crunchyroll since 2007. First Show I ever watched was Lucky Star but since than Ive been watching pretty much the new shows their showing and I rewatch pretty much all my favorite shows here. Funi I only watch Fruit Basket and some other shows that they have exclusively but its terrible for that too.

they may be rivals in other spaces, but I doubt its more profitable to restrict content to only English speacking places. funamation doesnt have people to do non English subs for things like mha. funamation now video play is trash. I cant see this as a good bussness move based on the infomation we have now.

The writing on the wall

Crunchyroll will eventually be incorporated/desolated into a AT&T super streaming service

It was only a few days ago that DramaFever was shut down, because licensing cost became to high for Warner Bros/AT&T.

Eventually, AT&T will do some major house cleaning and consolidate its various assets.

We will see if a bunch of corporate suits with little interest in anime decide to keep Crunchyroll going. Or spend money on other things such as the DC universe and Game of Thrones Spinoff.

Things are changing fast within the entertainment industry. I can see why Funimation decided to do their own thing and expand more globally.

Dark Days Ahead

Funimation gave hundreds of subtitles shows over to Crunchyroll and VRV. And within a few weeks those titles will be gone.

Ironic as HiDive is more a godsend to Brits as it's mostly exclusive content yet VRV ain't available outside of US/CAN.

So how much are you going to deduct from our subscription fees now that your entire anime library is going to be drastically reduced? Asking for a friend.

I actually have a HiDive subscription, too. I would have Funi if they weren't allergic to Latin America.

It is likely with new events, that funi is going to try to enter the Latin market very soon. I mean The whole point of them breaking off the current arrangement with crunchyroll is so that they can get their service to as many new countries as possible.

Sony Picture own Animax, Toai Animation, Sunrise, Toai Animation and TMS Entertainment

Sony Music own Aniplus and it’s version studios.

That a sh*t load of potential content that they are willing to but on a single streaming service
