Netflix announced in its Singapore slate event on Thursday that it will offer five new animation titles, including at least two by Japanese studios. One series is Cagaster of an Insect Cage, an adaptation of Kachō Hashimoto's Mushikago no Cagaster manga.

The second title from a Japanese studio is titled Yasuke.

Netflix describes the show's story:

In a war-torn feudal Japan of mechs and magic, a retired ronin must take up his sword when he is charged with the task of transporting a mysterious child who dark forces want to eliminate.

Another title is an Altered Carbon "feature" based on Netflix's live-action science-fiction series of the same name. The work will "explore new elements of the story mythology."

Netflix is also offering the animated series based on the live-action Pacific Rim films. Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson are the co-showrunners on the series by Legendary Entertainment, and the story will "follow two siblings - an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister - who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents."

While I don't know much about these two shows, seeing that Netflix is funding them I'm expecting them to have high production values, at least higher than the normal show. Of course, that just isn't always the case seeing just how bad Sword Gai and those Godzilla movies ended up being, but in any case, it's about time Netflix announced what their next completely original productions are on the anime front, and I'm quite curious about them.

An animated Pacific Rim?
*Gags*
I guess it's like we are moving on from turning anime into live action shows and now turning crappy movies into anime.

.....Ok so if the previous pattern was Good anime into bad live action,

does this mean we will be getting bad live action turned into good animation or into worse animation?

altered carbon the series sucked, I can only imagine how much they are probably going to slaughter the cartoon version. so might be a solid pass on me in regards to that one, however, pacific rim sounds interesting. more mech of gundam meets voltron so why not.

kinda confused as to why they are going to make an altered carbon cartoon. the live action series had an intresting concept going, but it was just too poorly executed. i couldnt watch past the second episode.

hasnt this been somewhat done before with another show netflix got a couple years ago ? don't remember what the anime was called, but there was a samurai dude and a girl piloting a mech . i am kinda sick of the mecha genre , just too much of the same thing in every show that has been coming out in the past few years.

That was my opinion; Am I not entitled to it? - The Same way you are?

Also what are you quoting? - I didn't quote you.

oh don't fret, it got horribly worse after that. but this is Netflix if there is a feature to be made they will make it, who cares (at least to them) that it copies something, that it isn't original or a continuation of the story. believe it or not a lot of people liked the dystopian experience, others thought it was absolute garbage. here's their chance to take the cartoon into either of these two directions.
