Its said that tamago nigiri is actually a true test of the sushi chef, as if it is made in house (a lot of it comes premade from a store) it is one of the few items he has to cook.

I like good stinky fish nigiri, iwashi, saba (not shime saba, although I like that too), aji, I just had some shimaaji sahimi last night! You know right away if the fish is not fresh, it has to be tio be served as sushi/sashimi. That's why you don't see it often.

To be honest, I think I prefer chu-toro, it actually has more flavor. O-toro is just so much fat and not so much meat.

I had some toro Hamachi that was pretty amazing.

Good amaebi is pretty amazing too, but I had some disgusting amaebi which pretty close to ruined the rest of dinner that night.

I'm not a big fan of rolls, I like tasting the fish.
I;ve had some pretty amazing beef nigiri too. Oh, and chicken sashimi, yes.

it’s meh.... it didn’t taste as good as the price tag implied imo

You may have lied too then. If you've had "meh" otoro it's probably not real. I'm not a huge sushi fan but I've had the real deal and it's really good. In the states I've also ordered what restaurants claim to be fatty tuna and it's a big fat lie. It's similar to establishments slapping "kobe beef" on a menu item when it's not really kobe. They add a few bucks to a burger or hot dog to fool some suckers. Same with fatty tuna

I don’t know, it’s not just a fatty tuna thing. There are many expensive types of sushi that I wouldn’t shell money out for.

There's this place that in my hometown called Cocoro. They have a specialty roll called a Coco Roll and it's unagi, spicy tuna, and prawn tempura topped in their house sauce, walnuts, and a sriracha mayo

Eel, octopus sashimi, or a spicy salmon roll, in that order. I've yet to have tuna I preferred over salmon. Though tuna rolls are almost always served with mayo, so that likely biases my judgement.

Its probably gonna be inari sushi, because its easy to make and keeps pretty well in the fridge.

Although the first sushi item I get when I land in Japan is kakinoha sushi, since it’s a favorite for my grandmother and I.
