No one thinks the UK is still an empire. Yes we might have dropped heavily in power and persuasion but that doesn't mean we are powerless and aren't still a big nation.

I would disagree with this point. I think a lot of the main people who support brexit JRM and the like are still clinging to the notion of England>Europe, because of the war and the history of the empire. The UK isn't a big nation population wise (this i could be mistaken on so will accept any corrections) or land mass wise, it just had an oversized bark compared to its bite. In fact half of that bite was that it got to be part of Europe without totally being part of Europe (no Euro and no Schengen) so that meant it was lucrative for people who wanted to get into the European market without having to learn a specific language (english being the "global language"). That will effectively be lost.
