What was the point of dragging Kei off like that?

They were supposed to have some sort of meeting, but he talked to the American guy for less than 2 minutes about the actual mission. Why did Kei even need to be there? If Kei and Gripen had to be there, then why not Phantom and Eagle? It's clear the fat Japanese guy wanted nothing to do with the American guy's simulations, so what was the point in taking Kei?

The whole premise behind moving humans out of cities to save humanity was stupid too. The were still surrounded by the Xi...what exactly kept the Xi from overwhelming them? Why do you assume that if humanity survives for 10 years then everything is okay?

I the trope of someone saying something important, but they can't be heard is getting old. So now we're supposed to believe that Gripen was made specifically to work with Kei. Are we going to believe his mom made her, or maybe the Xi made her after killing his mom?

This show needs to stick to cute girls do cute things because when it gets to serious plot, it just gets stupid.

Rhino's VA did have a kind of sexy raspiness to her.

I think the American guy Willy made the request for Kei to come.

As for moving humans out of city... The story hasn't explain the reason behind Xi's invasion (assuming there is one and the game properly emulated it), maybe they will ignore human who lives in the wild? That ten years is just an end point of the game, just like you can only play Civilization VI up to year 2050.

Rhino seems to know more than Willy does from her facial expression.

I also wondered why Kei had to be there. But mostly I was left wondering why the episode was titled the Unphysical Layer when it was not really about that, except for the bit at the very start. Interesting, mysterious, but not what most of the episode focused on. So considering that by the end of the episode we aren't given a clue to what the unphysical layer is, or how he might have ended up in it, or even whether or not it was real or a dream, the title seems more than a bit misleading.

They also hinted Xi may not be evil but they did attack people ( see first episode) and killed his mother. In the Physical layer, I believe that wasn't Gripen but an XI-I could be wrong though. To make any more theories, I need to know what the reason the Xi attacked the ship with civilians on it. Most military will not attack civilians areas.

I wish they would let his sister in on what is going and how serious it is.

Er, he wants to examine her data but won't touch her "personality data"? The Anima are grown in an artificial womb around a Xi core hence the appearance, needing to sleep/eat, etc. Do they have android hard drive brains all of a sudden? Does the author even know what Anima are? -.-

So that's Rhino out of the way ( gotta cram em all in before they run out of episodes I guess. ). Next up is the prerequisite twin tail loli, the Dassault Rafale. Then the Russian girls ( Sukhoi Su-47, Sukhoi Su-27 and a Mig-29 ).

Then, a maid. Who looks to be an F-22 Raptor.

Because fark it, the author started at the bottom of the barrel and he may as well stay there.

I'm pretty fed up with the running off in front of Minghua crap now but it seems to be one of the authors favourite fillers - it even has its own little theme music.

Are they really going to drag a schoolkid off to a military campaign in another country? Does he even go to school anymore?

Why doesn't he demand a million bucks a mission or something as without him they are down an anima they can't afford to lose?

Episode 9

Just when everything was set up for Kei and Minghua to finally go out together, out of nowhere Kei is dragged back to the base as this time, there's a new operation involving a new jet girl, Rhino. And there he's presented with a simulation created by Shankle to defeat the Xi or ensure humanity's survival. Kei keeps on failing, but Gripen is able to at least ensure humanity's survival going to show that Shankle thinks of these girls as machines and not girls. Rhino sure made her presence known, but yeah, Kei being dragged into this without letting him at least spend one day with Minghua was uncalled for to say the least.

Episode 10

It's off to Shanghai for a dangerous mission, but not if Phantom has any say in the matter as she nearly got Kei run over by a big rig. As it turns out, this battle is a way for the US to collect data to produce more Anima. So after some goodbyes and other stuff seeing that it's possible Kei doesn't return, it's off to set sail for Shanghai where the objective is to destroy enough Xi since they retreat for some reason after a certain number are shot down. Before getting into battle, everybody is partying on the ship. Pretty much, this episode bounced back and forth between being serious and light-hearted here as this is a huge battle that's coming, but everybody is acting as if they know for sure they are going to win.

Minghua was finally kicked into the friendzone without too much bad feeling.

More dream stuff - is Gripen still working as part of some Xi plot concerning Kei?

It also seems that Gripen is aware of the Xi's true goals that caused the conflict which is why she was so good at last week's simulation game.

The american anima Rhino proves to be adept at manipulation even bending Phantom round her finger without difficulty - only Kei seem's to be suspicious of her.

Honestly, I can't stand Minghua Song much in this show. Too childish of a personality with an obvious puppy crush on Kei.

It seems like one of those 'calm before the storm' episodes this week. On the other hand, I'm starting to like that Rhino girl more and more. She brings in some energetic charm with her personality. At this point in the series, I don't care much about the story anymore. Feels like it's been a major weakness for this anime.

So are the Xi communicating with Kei in his dreams like the Buggers in "Ender's Game". Are they trying to tell him everything is just a misunderstanding and humans and Xi can live peacefully?

Kei doing his usual overly dense routine. Does he really not know Minghua likes him, or is he just playing dumb because he doesn't want to outright reject her?

I don't understand why they are taking a bus to the Naval Base. How are the Daughters getting there? Are they trucking them across the country? Why don't they just fly them? That seems like the safest and most expedient way to get there.

I thought the party was a little dumb too, and how convenient that all of the American Naval personnel spoke Japanese.

Is Phantom just being paranoid and distrustful, or do the Americans really want to knock the Japanese down a peg? That reminds me a little of "Gate" where the Americans helped the Japanese but wanted to steal from them. A little jingoism by the authors? I heard the Gate web novel was even more jingoistic than the anime and manga. (of course American fiction tends to be a little jingoistic at times too)

Kei doesn't seem to trust Rihno, and she does seem a little too friendly and curious about humans.

My take on that is that it was Gripen and Kei communicating in the dream but that Gripen is more Xi than maybe she is even aware of.

The biggest question is why is Kei so special that Gripen was clearly built for him and why it would be for him to make a decision that will probably effect all humanity?

I guess there's a pretty big reveal near the end???

Or since this is based on a series of Light Novels, we will just be left hanging

Gah - I guess you are right

I see volume 11 has just been released - I can't really see this getting a second season so I guess we will be left hanging perpetually...
