It does at least look like a fun show, so I'll probably give it a shot. I'm enjoying everyone talking about different jet models and seeing how the show's depiction of this one or that lines up. I like learning new things. Is there a good general resource anyone can recommend for looking up that kind of information? I mean, there's Wikipedia, but it's Wikipedia, you know?

Wouldn't it be easier to just make the plane automated instead of a whole separate humanoid robot to pilot it?

also why do they all have be girls? oh Japan.

Gotta give the crowd that loves shows like Girls Und Panzer, Strike Witches, Kancolle, and Upotte!! their fix. That's just good marketing, after all. There's a niche between the moe and military otaku niches to be filled, a moe-tary otaku niche if you will.

The usual term is "moe military." It's my favorite anime niche, I track what I see:

I don't know about tagging this one, because of the harem element, but I'm particular about it.

"Moe military", then. I've mostly enjoyed the ones I've seen too, so it's an interesting niche to play with. Thank you for the list link.

I think it's a romance comedy with a novel setup - as to why the planes had to have a humanoid component it would severely limit where you can go with the plot otherwise.

Also if they were just planes with personalities it would just be Knight Rider with wings?

Edit: I also found the episode title amusing - sounds like a sanitary towel brand :p

So so far we have 3 shows this season with military themes + waifus - this, Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka, and The Price of Smiles.

I'm guessing out of these three this is the more easygoing one. TPoS pulled a Madoka in the 2nd episode (which we all figured was coming but damn), and MGSOA was advertised to be grimdark anyway.

for the record, I watched all of those with pleasure. Although Girls und Panzer was my favourite.

I was laughing as much at myself as the creators. I love how someone with an apparent chip on their shoulder all but accused me of being a feminist. .. Like that's a bad thing.

And not just a humanoid girl pilot, but one who apparently needs a boy around to function properly. Oh Japan, and oh audience boys. Sheesh. However, it still seems to have potential to be more fun than annoying, so I'm happy to continue on to the next episode.

those 10% is a complete game changer
for a design straight from

how did they achieve those +10%? used more thoroughly refined coal?

Well this started kind of fun and the two travelers were interesting until they both became obnoxious towards the end.

I was expecting one part Strike Witches and one part KanColle. One I love and one I hate. Instead it looks like I'm getting one part Dragon Pilot and one part Date A Live. I'm seeing a deadly business where he has to appeal to powerful girls who are planes that want to devour him and mature.

Out of the way undefined relationship girl. I'm going to become a protagonist or die trying! Seriously! The whole time this guy acts like things will just go his way. (Except when at gun point I guess.)

Is Minhua human? This girl can make dinner and chase down the protagonist to nag him at the same time. That's some high class waifu powers!

I've seen some comparisons to Franxx, but so far the only connection I really see is how science manages to create weapons of war that they have no idea how they work. The show is irrational. The protagonist is self centered and reckless. I'm still finding it fun for now though. It might be a guilty pleasure watch.

As long as you aren't being repetitive or attacking people, then you can negatively criticize it if you have a point to make. I'll encourage it for any show. Even the ones I like. If you can't see or accept a show's faults or shortcomings then you probably shouldn't watch it. No matter how much a show is loved, it's never unfair to want something better. That's how voices and different views become actualized.

This is a discussion, not a fan club.

Oh please another female whining about how anime can be targeted at men... boo hoo. Don't like it don't watch it.

You know it really has nothing to do with my being female, rather with me wanting things to have bare minimum of sense. And yeah, if anime as a whole is only targeted at men, and young immature men at that, that is stupid and lacking imagination since the watching demographic is a lot broader than that. But then from the last part of your response that description might fit you perfectly- and be careful with that argument- I'm sure I have seen you complain over various animes for tropes of other kinds, and should you ever do so again, one could be tempted to quote you back to yourself every time you do.

go and watch other anime.. this one is targeted at men ... go watch something else. seriously if you don't like it don't complain. Bare minimum of sense...... your talking about anime.. when has anything in anime ever made sense? called anime logic for a reason. What tropes have i complained about? i don't like yaoi and yuri and generally don't watch it because i find it cringy..... pretty much the only one i have ever complained about. There are no men pilots because this is a romance/action anime and the mc is male. Done.

Wow. Quite a chip on your shoulder...

Not really; Kotobuki isn't a harem. It's about an all-female squadron defending people from air pirates, in a constructed world resembling our 1940's or maybe 30's. The planes are real Japanese planes from that time. It's CG, but it has some hype because director Tsutomu Mizushima did/does Girls und Panzer, as well as Shirobako, with its memorable anime-within-an-anime about female fighter pilots.

Damn I want to see that one. Crunchy doesn't have it? guess it's the Darkside then.
