Episode 5

Gripen might have been saved from the scrap heap, but her performance is still a far cry from Eagle's. Kei gets into one of those typical situations where he's someplace he shouldn't be, but Gripen insists he comes in. And then the third girl of the unit, Phantom, is here as Kei runs into her when some dude was being too aggressive on her. So after everything that has happened, the three girls are now an independent unit, the IMTU. Phantom lives up to her name alright as she can disappear and reappear on the radar like that. The team is now formed, but they have quite a lot of work to do. Gripen's skill is still lacking, while Phantom is not exactly a team member trying to pull each other's weight.

That Eagle girl has a rather childish personality tbh. I think she also has both an inferiority and superiority complex.

Well anyways, I hope they actually develop these characters cause so far, they don't seem like larger than life. Curious about that Phantom girl though.

Hmm, not used to seeing a Genki Girl like Eagle being so stuck up and condescending. I guess Phantom can 1 up her in that category though. I guess it's up to our show's Don Juan to make all the girls fall in line.

So, was the Chinese Private Pilot Manual supposed to be another indicator that Gripen is somehow related to Kei and or his mom?

This show has become my hatewatch for this season.

Eagle and Phantom are locked in a relentless battle to prove which one is the more farking obnoxious character. Yet the show *still* manages to be boring.

I'm guessing it's from her memories if my guess is correct that bits of Kei's mom in Gripen.

I am surprised that Izawa Shiori voiced Phantom. This is like seriously the first role she's done not sounding like she's high on helium.

Specifically, fragments of skin and bone embedded in the fuselage after shooting her down.

It's hard for me not to like Gripen. She may be clueless at times but of all three of them, she's the best one so far. Eagle however, is hard to like because of her childlike personality. Finally, Phantom. It's her first appearance but acting cocky like that? Meh.

Episode 6

It turns out that Phantom is at a level that Gripen or Eagle can't hope to match, and it turns out she's the first to be created. Her special treatment as Eagle all upset as the JSDF prepares for an operation to bomb a Xi base, something that the girls aren't equipped to do. Not to mention, Phantom is willing to sacrifice Japan to protect humanity. Just as Phantom said, destroying the base is harder than it looks, especially when Eagle gets shot, as it's equipped with a powerful weapon that's hard to avoid. The lack of teamwork from last week's episode sure did set things up for this to go down, and now Kei needs to win Phantom's trust after all that.

It seems odd that Japan would develop a weapon that has no interest in protecting Japan. Seems like that attitude would have gotten her scrapped. It also seems odd that a first generation unit would be so superior to newer generation units, and if her development made he so superior, then why are they not developing the current Anima with the same methods?

The explanation about why each "Daughter" had to be a different plane model was dubious at best, but closer to just outright nonsense.

Phantom's desire to have Kei as her partner makes no sense after witnessing her personality. How will Kei's presence aid her goal of saving humanity? She's already said she sees him as a liability, so why would she want anything to do with him? If she cares nothing about saving Japan, then I doubt she has any motivations to procreate.

Phantom's superiority complex is actually getting slightly annoying imo.

Hope someone proves her wrong eventually.

Am I the only one getting vibes of the The Third Girls Aerial Squadron (Shirobako) with this show?
