I guess I understand why they didn't advertise it all over their main page, but some alert banner would have been nice here..

Yes...but WHY? For how long? It's been nearly a week and this hasn't been fixed.

The forums are constantly glitching out.

On a daily basis new episodes are not being pushed to the que, or pushed to the updated shows section, making them impossible to watch on the apps....this has been going on for nearly a year.

Why isn't Crunchyroll fixing known errors? We are paying for this service....FIX IT!!!

I believe that Crunchyroll is fixing the site and the forum but it will take more time. And private message are disabled so that Crunchyroll can fix the glitches more easily.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Like I said, the failure of new episodes to push to ques and the updated section has been going on for nearly a year. I put in a support ticket for it, and they basically got to the point of "well, the show will appear eventually"

I noticed that today and yesterday there weren't glitches in the forum and the guestbook, this is a good sign. The situation with disabling the private messages can really turn out to put the end of the glitchy period for Crunchyroll.

How does it take over a week to fix this?
I only noticed today since I hadn't logged in for a while, but there's that "1" telling me I have an unread message and it frustrates me immensely to see it there and be unable to do anything about it.

An official announcement would be nice on topic of if it was intentionally disabled.

I don't expect a fix soon. Forums aren't as popular as they use to be. Instead of anonymous communications, our physical offline lives are quickly intermingling with our online presence. No one pays for a membership to enhance their experience on the forums, they buy it to watch anime.

Forums are still popular: Reddit is one of the biggest sites on the internet after all. No, the decline on Crunchyroll came about when they started showing just Anime and Manga topics on the front page; when they stopped fixing irritating bugs; and, most of all, when they stopped improving the site and putting all their tech dollars into VRV. I joined in 2011, and the site looks the same now in 2019 as it did back then. The only new feature I can think of is the HTML5 player and that took years to arrive.

Crunchyroll could be revitalized easily:
0. Make it company policy for management to communicate site changes and problems to users.
1. Fix the bugs. Seriously, some of these things have been a problem for YEARS. A Free Code Camp rando could have fixed PMs by now.
2. Re-upload videos with a higher bit rate. Even at 1080p, the quality here is much lower than Netflix or HiDive.
3. Create a new code of conduct to handle the weird shit that were making the forums so toxic when they were active.
4. Hire competent designers and programmers to put together a new forum design.
5. Roll out the new design, complete with a large team of moderators to keep the forums mostly clean.
6. Re-upload videos with a higher bit rate.

Does management think users will feel like subscribing to VRV when they aren't happy with Crunchyroll? They don't fix bugs, they don't update the site, they lowered video quality, and they don't communicate with users. What part of that is supposed to make users feel good about subscribing to another service made by the same company? Resurrect Crunchyroll, build good will with current customers, attract new customers, and THEN point them in the direction of VRV.

The only way this downtime makes sense to me is if they are refactoring the code base or making serious site-wide improvements. I hope that's what it is...

Other major changes: The Store has been pretty much spun off to its own site and not really integrated with this one anymore(specials aren't even posted on the front page). Also, that random button that just tosses you a random anime at you if you really have no idea what to watch.

There are a time when more than just Anime and Manga topics were shown on the front page? What else was shown before?

With all the stuff that needs to be fixed its amazing they fired most of their in-house programmers and replaced them with ones from another company Elation picked up. They should have instead just integrated both teams.

Honestly, I miss the days when cr was an illegal site. The forums felt much more fun back then + crunchyland and other flash games. Anyways, I think I'll try contacting them, too.
