The production company J.C. Staff announced on their Twitter page that the anime Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has been renewed after a second season five years after the original adaptation, amidst speculation that they are opting to adapt the subsequent seasons of anime that Madhouse studio's has decided to not adapt in lieu of other projects.

Tsutomu Satou began writing the novel series with character designs and illustrations by Kana Ishida (Aquarion Evol character design) in 2008 under the Dengeki Bunko label. Yen Press licensed the original light novel series and the spinoff manga The Honor Student at Magic High School.

The 26-episode anime adaptation debuted in April 2014 from director Manabu Ono at Madhouse. Aniplex of America licensed the anime and released it on home video last year.

Well, this is a surprise, and after the recent announcement event in Japan where they announced the second season to so many other series.
