Hi, we're debating over what conventions to go to this year. We live in Wisconsin, but its an easy drive to the Twin Cities. We're just wondering if there is any difference in the scene between animinneapolis vs. going to meta-con? Would you recommend going to both?

Hey! I see this is an older post but have you hit up many con? I'm from midwest and have been to Zero! Kanpaicon is coming to Nebraska for maybe the first time? Was just searching over forums to see if anyone had attended one.

Sorry, unfortunately I don't go that far out. Looks like it's run by the same people though. Just a heads up, I heard the guy got some allegations against him, but I haven't had any problems at their other conventions in Minnesota and Illinois. Though I mostly go to cons to cosplay and get niche goods.

You can check out their websites, if you'd like: https://metaconvention.com/ and https://animinneapolis.com

I think they're run by the same people. But as far as I can tell, the only difference is that AniMinneapolis has got two events that the other doesn't.

One's called Dante's Fabulous Fate Auction, where people can volunteer to auction themselves off for the Formal Fantasy Cosplay Ball (an event present in both cons). To my understanding, the proceeds of the auction will partially go to charity.

AniMinneapolis also has a ConSweet, something that the organizers of both cons have at most of their cons - which is unlimited soda and instant ramen for the congoers. Trust me, it is helpful when you don't wanna leave the venue to go grab a bite to eat in your costume.

I've been to neither, but I have been to Con+Alt+Delete in Illinois, which is run by the same people. And from my experience, they organize a pretty good con. The special guest speakers and panels are great and the raves are fun. The cosplayers and cosplay contest was great too. It was a pretty small and intimate convention, so you didn't have to worry about all the hustle and bustle; it gives you more time to just hang out with the people there and meet the special guests for autographs.

On this topic, AniMinneapolis' registration is already up and going if you're planning on going. https://animinneapolis.com/register And so is MetaCon's https://metaconvention.com/register Looks like MetaCon's less expensive tho, if that something you want to take into account.
