The first episode is now up on Funimation: https://www.funimation.com/shows/fategrand-order-absolute-demonic-front-babylonia/absolute-demonic-front-babylonia/?qid=

ICYMI, this show will be exclusive to Funimation for a month, and it will be on Crunchyroll and other places a month later. Sony now calls the shots for both Aniplex and Funimation (albeit different branches of Sony), and they are the ones who made this decision.

Episode 1

Having spent so much time playing the game over the past year, a lot of things feel familiar, and it's great to see this story being played out with voice acting and fluid animation (as opposed to still animation in the game). The story in this singularity is by far the best written in the game (though Camelot and Orleans are also pretty good).

So it begins with Mash and the player Rayshifting into Babylon, and Mash calling out her NP to cushion the fall where they are immediately attacked by a bunch of hungry lions, while Ishtar arrives to save them, and then Enkiru coming to take out the enemy. And he tells them about the place as it's humanity's hope. Pretty nice way to start things off there, though it might be confusing for those who haven't played the game.

And here's a spoiler from the game about Enkidu:

Got impatient and didn't want to deal with Sony/Funi's 30 day BS so I watched it elsewhere.

Ehhhh... As a HUGE WHALE myself on FGO I was initially excited but this first episode wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Maybe it's because I lost a significant amount of interest after getting massively burned out from opening 500+ boxes in Nerofest 2019.

EDIT: Since this first episode wasn't that impressive don't see this show being weekly must watch show and a high priority anymore so I suppose I can wait until it eventually arrives here on CR and watch it at my own pace.

I do look forward to see

Heh, I got one of the servants I wanted for a long time recently from a roll.

Well, the first episode was okay for me. Didn't impress me too much but seeing characters like Mash, Rin, etc makes me want to play the game again. I'm going to say it's going to take time for the story to build but until then, I'm going to keep my expectations in check. I'm not a fan of Enkidu but it's kinda neat to see being animated.

The animation looks decent so far, nothing too groundbreaking but certainly works for this show.

Haven't played the mobile game at all so this was largely new to me. Pretty enjoyable so far. Fate has the tendency to end up so far up it's own butt it disappears but this, at least so far, hasn't crossed that line even if the potential is there. And Mash is always a character I enjoy. Solid start.

Is it my imagination?

I don't remember so many extreme crotch shots in previous outings of this franchise

Poor Rin.... one of the worst cases of Isekaitis on record... Also it's always enjoyable to see Mash Smash things.

I am however dreading the inevitable "Oh they Gender Swapped Da Vinci Typical Fate", Nonsense. From what I understand, Da Vinci is technically still a dude (hence why they use a lot of Male pronouns in the Game). It's just that he was smart enough to figure out how to change his Saint Graph (the servant's appearance) to be based off of the Mona Lisa.

*sighs* Now if you excuse me I am gonna go geek out elsewhere

The cg art isn't bad, but the action was kind of bland. I'll give this another episode at least, but not particularly impressed me with this opening.

Last Encore did have quite a bit of fanservice thanks to Nero, but yeah. This episode did have a surprising amount of... interesting shots...

Hmm not a fan of the characters face design (the weird noses, I've always hated those) it's so distracting and was it me or is everything CG? Obviously the lion things were but stuff like Mash's armor looked CG too (is it everything or a mix?).
Funny after studying literature from this era hearing all these names as characters, Inkidu is nothing like the one in the Gilgamesh story.
And yes whoever is in charge of this is definitely an ass-man.

This is a spinoff, so for those of you who arn't too familiar with Fate, knowing more about the franchise helps, but the only previous works you need to have watched for this to make sense are the First Order OVA and episode 0.

Enkidu in the Nasuverse is...
(minor spoilers regarding Enkidu's characteristics in the Spoiler)
