A break this week but second cour starts January woohoo
The only thing I can think of to make it better next season would be if we get to see Tamamo no Mae

Not happening unless they go to final singularity. They didn't even mention Tomoe Gozen and her fight.

In the meantime, Moonlight Lostroom is coming on New Year's Eve. It came out two years ago in Japan, and the North America server is two years behind, so that explains the timing.

The Moonlight/Lostroom special is now up on Crunchyroll and Funimation. It actually aired two years ago, but it since it ties into the game and the North American server is two years behind that it wasn't made available until now.

It's the holidays there, and Olga is donning the Mages Association uniform to fight, and then it's a lot of talking between Olga and Lev, and then between Ritsuka and Olga, and most of it is not really interesting. But that last part was really ominous with another Shielder talking to Ritsuka in his sleep. And that ending, Kirei makes an appearance. Well, this is a preview for the next part of the story, so you probably would only get something out of this if you have played the game up through the final singularity.

Pretty much. It's purpose is to provide some background information and foreshadowing for the second arc. So there isn't much point in watching it unless you're caught up on the (English version) game's story.

Well, I watched this like all the other Fates and was thoroughly confused. I just hope it can be like Lord El-Melloi II Case Files and watchable none-the-less. Not holding my breath though.

That's at least in part because you probably haven't seen the first six story chapters. MoonLight/Lost Room skips even further ahead. And it isn't even meant to function as a standalone story, as I explained in my previous post.

I missed parts. But my biggest confusion goes from: "We summoned these historic spirits to fight for the grail" to "We summon these historic spirits to save humanity from going down the toilet". Oh well, I really enjoyed El-Melloi II Case Files so I'll give it a watch.

Well a special that is entirely an exposition that will require a second watch because I wasn't paying close enough attention. I kept thinking "Why so boring?", "Why is that guy dressed like a leprechaun?" and "Why is this prissy girl who has no apparent leadership talent leading this organization" and other similar thoughts at least we can see the servant Shielder

Fate Moonlight/Lost Room, should be called Lost Time because I'm never going to get that wasted 30 minutes back. Super boring, not really understandable, probably the worse anime I've seen all year.

As for Babylonia, it's enjoyable and understandable as long as you've watched First Order. It's a shame First Order was mediocre and they decided to skip most of the story in between the two. However, Babylonia is the weakest Fate series in terms of structure. In a lot of episodes it's overwhelmingly obvious it has come from a mobile game. Some episodes feel incredibly segmented and not a smooth transition like other Fate anime. I can see where there has been a bit of character talking, a fight, skip to more character talking, a fight.. and so on.

I skipped to the end of this thread because I haven't started watching it yet, and wanted to see what people had to say about the new MOONLIGHT/LOSTROOM episode that showed up. I like the Fate series, but have not played any of the games. Do you really have to play the game to understand the story? I was hoping I would be able to follow the story without having to play the game. I'm wondering now if I should even bother trying to watch it.

To understand the anime you have to watch first order first, then this initium before Babylonia.

Obviously having knowledge from playing the game would be ideal, but First Order and episode 0 (both on CR) should do a good enough job introducing you to FGO's concept, which is different from other Fate shows. Babylonia is the 7th chapter, but the ones before aren't that important (except for the previous one, which is going to be released as 2 movies) so you're not missing that much in terms of story. Babylonia is pretty self-contained. A few things that happened earlier in the story get referenced and some characters they've met before make cameos in flashbacks, but no vital information is missing other than something you learn about one of the main characters in Camelot, which comes right before this, though you can probably guess what that is from watching the first episode.

Moonlight/Lostroom is something completely different. It's only meant for those who are caught up with the game as it goes alongside the prologue for Part 2 of the game that was just released in the English version a few days ago and foreshadows some things that are going to happen later. There's no point watching this if you're not playing the game.
