I skipped to the end of this thread because I haven't started watching it yet, and wanted to see what people had to say about the new MOONLIGHT/LOSTROOM episode that showed up. I like the Fate series, but have not played any of the games. Do you really have to play the game to understand the story? I was hoping I would be able to follow the story without having to play the game. I'm wondering now if I should even bother trying to watch it.

Obviously having knowledge from playing the game would be ideal, but First Order and episode 0 (both on CR) should do a good enough job introducing you to FGO's concept, which is different from other Fate shows. Babylonia is the 7th chapter, but the ones before aren't that important (except for the previous one, which is going to be released as 2 movies) so you're not missing that much in terms of story. Babylonia is pretty self-contained. A few things that happened earlier in the story get referenced and some characters they've met before make cameos in flashbacks, but no vital information is missing other than something you learn about one of the main characters in Camelot, which comes right before this, though you can probably guess what that is from watching the first episode.

Moonlight/Lostroom is something completely different. It's only meant for those who are caught up with the game as it goes alongside the prologue for Part 2 of the game that was just released in the English version a few days ago and foreshadows some things that are going to happen later. There's no point watching this if you're not playing the game.

Thank you so much for such an in depth reply. I really appreciate it. I've watched the movie, and episode 0 already. I wasn't sure about watching the rest of it after I looked here yesterday about the new Moonlight/Lostroom. I just wanted to make sure you didn't have to have any special knowledge of the game to watch it. So I think I'll give Babylonia a try, and pass on Moonlight/Lostroom if it's a different story. I thought since it was also part of the game, that they would be connected. Thank you!

They are connected chronologically. It's just that Moonlight/Lostroom needs context from the game since it goes together with where the game is right now. It's not essential for players either. Just a little bonus special for the players. Babylonia on the other hand is fine to watch since you've already seen the only thing needed to understand the story, barring some smaller details.

For the second half the same opening is used but with different footage with different mixing and a new ending.

Episode 12

Gil has gone missing, but Ishtar knows exactly what happened so she takes Ritsuka and Mash to the underworld. And there questions are asked about who's better between Ishtar and Ereshkigal. Of course, Ereshkigal would be the right answer, and in the process Ishtar becomes tiny. And Ereshkigal has emerged as a giant skeleton. Something big is developing here as something was amiss in all this.

In the game, you get a choice of two answers in a conversation and it ultimately doesn't matter what you choose as you get a straightforward response and a comical one, but in this situation it does where answering Ishtar means a tougher fight.

Who is prettier between Ishtar and Eresh? The answer should be obvious!

I wasn't expecting the "new" OP to just be the second verse or for a more Gil-centered ED.

Not a fan of the new OP visuals, new ED song is OK but the visuals are crotcherific.

However, oof unless they're trying to give her the boniest ass in the world someone really messed up the anatomy on Ishtar

Not much action but a fun episode especially for Ishtar fans, Ereshkigal should be a great foil for her the stuff at the gates was pretty funny. I don't know about anyone else but I really like the humor in this show. It knows not to take itself too seriously and have fun with the characters.

No battles so not a lot of crotch this week just one of Ishtar

Though they did make sure to give fans a nice shot of her flat butt when she gave her conceited hair flip

Gilgamesh tormenting tiny Ishtar was fun

So they've used the second verse for the opening song this time, and different graphics, and I really think the first version was better.
Not much I can say about this episode, mini-Istar was so cute, but this didn't feel nearly as solid as most of the previous episodes.
I sort of like the ending theme and how it's about Gilgamesh. Sung by the Japanese version of Adelle I guess

Also not a fan of the new opening song. I personally think the first one was better but that's my opinion.

Episode 13

Ereshkigal has turned into that skeletal monstrosity, but despite her stance, Ritsuka understands her true feelings and lets it be known that he's aware of her desire to protect humanity. All it took is a command seal to have Mash protecting her dignity and Ereshkigal has regained her senses. And then that old man comes to sever her ties to the Underworld and setting her free. So with that, all three Goddesses have joined the defense against Gorgon with two days to prepare, and they did so in dramatic fashion.

Not going to lie, watching this week's episode was very exciting but I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to get Ereshkigal from the banner roll the previous weeks.

Anyways, I think it's an episode worth waiting for especially after the buildup.

The action is back this week and I couldn't be happier. Mash had some great fighting scenes and she was just amazing... then Erishkigal finally comes out of hiding and she's just like a blond Rin and has almost the same personality, as Rin-cough-Ishtar.
The only downer is the whole thing had to take place in a cold blue cave.

Mash fight!

Oh no! Mash gets knocked down and can't get up but Ritsuka is there for her, they work so well together.

Erishkigal finally appears

They certainly know how to make the characters cute. Soundtrack continues being impressive. It seems good soundtrack is a rare commodity in anime.

The key difference between the two seems to be the % levels of Tsun and Dere.

When you get right down to it I think Erishkigal is a lot less likely to blow you up over some minor thing than Ishtar is.

Great fight this week Lord Camelot was cool and finally we get Erishkigal, and what's better than a tsundere goddess that looks like Rin? TWO tsundere goddesses that look like Rin This show covers all the bases. I was like WTH!? when that dude cut her in half, I was like we just got her and now she's dead already? And as usual with a big battle it was crotcherific, mainly showcasing Mash this week.

Compare this to the pic in the ED and notice they drew it correct without the awful protuding pelvic bones

And Mash gets a power up with a skirt to cover her crotch

well maybe not

Someone went super detailed on this one

Episode 14

Now that the three goddesses have joined, the attention now shifts towards defeating Gorgon. So after some more talk seeing that everything will be over once they defeat Gorgon that they making preparations to live. And then the battle is on as Lucoa battles Enkidu, and then tosses the Ax of Marduk to destroy the temple to lower Gorgon's divinity. Ana comes face-to-face with Gorgon as she reveals her true identity and goes up against her sister using Mystic Eyes to cancel each other's Mystic Eyes out. Lots of stuff going on here as there's going to be a lot of twists and turns in this battle with Gorgon.

And at the very least, from the game,
