Synopsis

A long time ago dragons ruled a world of elves, dwarves, vampires, homunculi, and humans. In the present dragons have all but disappeared, so the ones left chose to live together, and their appearance came to resemble that of humans. The year 2x19 in Tokyo is mostly a time of peace, but a group called the Nine cause chaos in their quest to obtain the dragons' powers and change the world. The police form a unit consisting of various experts to fight against Nine; the Special Crime Investigation Unit - Special 7 (Tokunana). These individuals have abilities that surpass the average human, to the extent that there are rumors of rebellion against them. A rookie, Seiji Nanatsuki, enters the unit. While teased by other members with colorful personalities, he sets out to solve cases involving Nine with his bright mind and straightforward thinking. Will he be able to find justice in the most grueling circumstances?

The first episode is now up on Funimation: https://www.funimation.com/shows/special-7-special-crime-investigation-unit/one-brings-bad-omens-seven-brings-good-luck/?qid=

Episode 1

So it begins with a bank hostage case where the robbers are wearing animal masks. Special 7 is on the case, and Seiji is acting just like the rookie he is trying to play the hero and getting himself caught up needing to be helped out. But thanks to his teammates and the decision to blow up a section of the bridge, as well as Shiori's swordplay that they apprehended the thieves. While the cop action is pretty solid, there's just not much of a story from the get go. Let's see where things go from here as it was entertaining enough, but the big test comes next.

I try to give everything 3 episodes to make an impression but the first episode stinks of a bang average action show for 13 year old boys. I'd probably like it more if it was a straight up cop or black ops action drama, this doesn't really know what it wants to be. The fantasy elements seem to be just there to have some edgy super powers come into it and the matrix ninja stuff was kinda dumb. After she showed up and chopped up all of their bullets it's like "oh the guns were no threat I guess?" so why didn't they just send her in and avoid getting told off for blowing up the rainbow bridge? It looks like she could have just walked in and saved the day instantly but I guess we needed to introduce drone ka-boom girl by having her do more than be a tech loli.

We'll see where they go with this but I don't know if I want to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy this if the story is as dull as I think it's going to be.

Seems like an even more generic ensemble version of Cop Craft, with less personality or style. But the action was serviceable enough. The show immediately forgetting that the Rookie took a bullet to the stomach without even clothing damage seems overly sloppy, though.

This is the kind of show I'd probably lose interest in after a few episodes, but I like the inclusion of the mythical beings. Standard cop shows usually don't interest me. The ninja sword woman was kinda silly and made me wonder why the one guy had to talk them into surrendering when she looked like she could have taken care of all of them once they stopped and got out of that apc. So the jury is still out but I'll keep watching and see what develops.

Fairly enjoyable if nothing that really feels unique or special. We'll have to see where it goes long term as this definitely feels like it's going to need to be carried by the characters, but the characters do seem pretty likable so far. Not world shaking but still a decent enough start.

I'm actually kind of impressed they took a concept as potentially awesome as "cops & dragons" and turned it into a bland remix of Bungo Stray Dogs. The vampires, elves, etc may as well have been cosplayers for all they actually had to do with the plot of the episode.

It's a good thing those were the only two vehicles in the ENTIRE CITY or that car chase might have been dangerous too. It's also a good thing he can apparently dodge bullets point blank. Oh, and that the guy at the end that whipped out the gun was kind enough to just stand there for 5 seconds and let himself be punched instead of shooting him. Whew!

Just think, if the guy in the gorilla mask hadn't been blind, deaf and mindnumbling stupid he might have noticed our Hero loudly and obviously communicating with someone. Then our Hero would really be trouble!

Now let's go rob a bank and fist bump over an Instagram post with our obvious and easily identifiable tattoos that render us wearing masks pointless. Don't worry though, I always put stickers on my burner cell. I wouldn't be stupid enough to use my personal and easily identifiable cellphone that probably has GPS thus placing me at the scene of the crime.

Oh, and be sure to choose the slowest and most easily traceable vehicle you can think of as a getaway car short of trying to escape in a tractor.

I may be wrong, but it seemed when Shiori smiled at the little girl she had vampiric fangs. She may be a vampire or dhampir, most likely since she was doing her fighting in the daylight. That would definitely amp up her skills and reflexes.

She's such a cliche'd character though. And the way she just popped up out of nowhere like that and started cutting bullets in half was kind of eye rolling. Where the heck did she come from? Some kind of hint ahead of time that there are beings in this world that are capable of that sort of thing would have helped make that scene more palatable.

I quite liked that

It may be dumb, but it's already better than cop craft

As with a lot of this season's first eps. I need to see how this goes before I really know if I stick with it. I did feel though that this really was more of an introduction and there was a lot left to be told and explained. Like the MC clearly did take a bullet point blank, and even the other guys expected him to at the very least be seriously hurt, but he's absolutely fine. And was the only one to survive that terrorist attack at the airport amid devastation. Obviously there is something there to be found out. Yet when the MC is apparently fine and unhurt after being shot, the other two react with an "ok" rather than "impossible", meaning they know it's possible.

That 'dodge' at point blank seemed similar to the unscathed boy in the middle of a terrorist attack. Guessing there's more to it than just dumb writing.

He said something about dodging....maybe the MC has super speed or maybe he can turn his body and cloths intangible
