As with a lot of this season's first eps. I need to see how this goes before I really know if I stick with it. I did feel though that this really was more of an introduction and there was a lot left to be told and explained. Like the MC clearly did take a bullet point blank, and even the other guys expected him to at the very least be seriously hurt, but he's absolutely fine. And was the only one to survive that terrorist attack at the airport amid devastation. Obviously there is something there to be found out. Yet when the MC is apparently fine and unhurt after being shot, the other two react with an "ok" rather than "impossible", meaning they know it's possible.

He said something about dodging....maybe the MC has super speed or maybe he can turn his body and cloths intangible

I can't really recall that, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the MC who has seemed pretty clueless as to how exactly it happened and would probably assume any explanation for why he wasn't hurt was likely. He just seems to not think about it. So if it's one of the other two, I'd say they're guessing, but don't really believe it. If nothing else, it would have been darn hard to "dodge" much at that range and in that position. I'm guessing more likely he simply doesn't take damage. I'm thinking there's something about the nature of this world and these individuals we haven't yet been told. Remember elves, dwarves and dragons, so I wouldn't be surprised if magic's there as well.

Yeah the veteran guy that was there said that he didn't think he'd be able to dodge it from that range. At first I just figured he was going to be wearing a bullet proof vest or something like that. But, when he didn't say anything about it I figured there must be a lot more to it than that. I fully expect that the guy will have some kind of supernatural ability. He was able to snap that plastic tie that was holding him too and that would take a lot of strength and some pretty tough skin to do as well.

Well. I wasn't planning to watch this...then realized there isn't much on Sunday so I may give it a try...these comments seems to say don't bother

That's how I feel about Azur Lane. Still haven't got around to it yet.

Anyway, this show felt like something I'd watched before...or more accurately, like something I watched for a few episodes before. There was that show about people getting injected with some kind of super steroids, where the hapless normal guy was taken into a weird law enforcement group...Midnight Occult something or other, which had the twist that the MC was supposed to have some kind of magical legacy. Etc.

Didn't love it. Didn't hate it.

That 'dodge' at point blank seemed similar to the unscathed boy in the middle of a terrorist attack. Guessing there's more to it than just dumb writing.

It could have something to do with this (from the synopsis):

"In the present dragons have all but disappeared, so the ones left chose to live together, and their appearance came to resemble that of humans."

I could be miles off, but I don't know why else they put that information it in.

Good point. And if the special unit has "abilities that surpass the average human," the others may not be human either.

Pretty sure the samurai woman is a vampire.

The sniper dude has fur on his arms...like a gorilla or something, so he is likely not human either

Wearing those red heels into battle is a dead giveaway. And loli might be the tinkering dwarf. Lol

I think the sniper guy might actually be a dwarf. Sometimes anime likes to portray dwarves as being larger rather than smaller. I'd guess the loli is either human or elf.

That confounding anime-only oxymoron.

Dwarves should be.... dwarf.

why do the Japanese always depict Orcs as pig like creatures as well?

I'm guessing because "western fantasy" gets filtered through a Dragon Quest lens.

Orcs in the early editions of D&D also had pig like faces. Maybe that's where it originally came from?

This picture is from the 1977 D&D Monster Manual.

First edition D&D had pork orcs ( porcs? ) that differentiated them some from Tolkien orc's which weren't quite as overtly porkish. They slowly turned into more Tolkein like designs over time with each new edition of D&D. But D&D's porc designs predated Dragon Quest's orcs by over a decade.

In regards to Dragon Quest's "orcs" ( and indeed Toriyama's work in general ) those are beast people. Toriyama likes his anthropomorphic animals so his "orc" designs were essentially just boar men. Not Tolkein / D&D style orcs. Though Toriyama was pretty big on drawing from western culture in his early work.

TL;DR: If it's a furry it's probably Toriyama inspired. If it ain't it's probably Gygax / Tolkien.

This has been your daily orc PSA.

Episode 2

And now, the rest of the members of Special 7 are introduced, and this time the case involves a murder of politicians. It turns out that there was a blog written by Suga that condemned those four guys, and while Suga did put that page up, he was bribed to do so. They found the killer, but Rookie had a tough time dealing with him while Charisma took arrived just in time to take him down. Pretty much, it's more of the same as the first episode except that it's more of an investigation rather than being action-oriented.

So much for the rookie guy being super tough after taking that knife wound. Still, he didn't seem all that bothered by it either.

Never would have guessed the loli was a homonculi.
